Figure skating has long been a space for LGBTQ2S+ athletes to shine. Now, Skate Canada is taking a stand: no events in Alberta until trans athletes can compete freely. Mel Woods explores what happens when values meet policy: thewalrus.ca/the-sports-org…

By 1968, the psychedelic movement had seeped into every corner of pop culture - music, film, art, and even cartoons. One of the strangest and most delightful examples was “Psychedelic Pink”, the 39th episode of the Pink Panther series.

When people say “save the planet,” the question they avoid is: from what, and for who? The planet isn’t at risk. Human flourishing is. Using resources to live better isn’t an atrocity, it’s the basis of civilization. The real debate is how to balance prosperity with environmental impact, not whether prosperity itself is immoral. What often gets framed as “saving the planet” ends up meaning restricting development, raising costs, and limiting access to energy, especially for those trying to improve their standard of living. And when the same voices exempt themselves from those constraints, it raises a simpler question: Is this about sustainability, or about controlling how others are allowed to live?

@MPelletierCIO Canadians on the left voted for this because they don't understand economics and think that capitalism is the enemy. They got exactly what they voted for.

@BumpstockBarbie Possums are our friends, if you see a wild possum you should go up to it and hug it and kiss it on the snoot. They love to be cuddled and kissed! Don’t let the hissing deter you, that’s just their cute possum way of saying they love you

Fun fact about opossums: Opossums are very unlikely to carry rabies due to their lower body temperature, which makes it difficult for the virus to survive in them. While any mammal can contract rabies, cases in opossums are extremely rare compared to other wildlife like raccoons and bats.

Previous bfs introduced me to chess—I didn't think I would like it; now I am completely hooked. And to Foo Fighters and to Rick Beato's music analysis YouTube channel. I am now the world greatest Foo Fighters fan and am in an intense parasocial fantasy relationship with Rick.

Can anyone more charitably disposed to AA than I explain why he’s rowed in behind Restore so hard? You’d think he’d be dismissing it as slopulist containment and note that it does nothing whatsoever to either advance a counter-elite or encourage elite defection by now.

It is astounding how pretty much the entire left have given up on climate change as an issue. It was omnipresent for ages, and now it barely features at all in leftist discourse. Sort of makes you wonder if their commitment to it was ever real.

I’ve written elsewhere how contemporary Left pathologies become much more explicable if one views that Left, or at least sections of it, instead as akin to body-snatchers, taking on the name, and, in some cases, taking over the organs, of the Left, but with a radically different class composition and set of ideas to the Left of old. Ben Fong here makes a similar point while introducing Rustin’s Challenge, a new collection of previously unpublished essays by civil rights leader Bayard Rustin, whose thought on the trajectory of the late 60s/70s New Left was uncannily predictive of our current malaise. To my mind, viewing the conjuncture this way this does not require abandoning the Left, or, still less, abandoning the centuries-old goals and values of the Radical Enlightenment that was the historical Left’s project. It instead requires defeat of the body-snatchers.
