Los Angeles steadily made it harder and more expensive for productions to shoot locally and then acted surprised when movies and shows went to Atlanta, New Mexico, and overseas instead. The tax rebates were a factor too, but mainly it's just a pain in the ass to film in LA.
TheWrap@TheWrap

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced the 70% reduction of filming costs at the Griffith Observatory, one of the city’s most iconic locations. Instead of $100,000, it will now cost $30,000 to shoot at Griffith, bringing the cost back down to 2008 pricing levels. Read more: thewrap.com/industry-news/… Photo: Getty Images

An Open Letter to David Ellison- Re: industry challenges David, Among the long-standing, important and unresolved issues, I urge you to consider my lack of a credit in Tommy Boy. This atrocity was perpetrated by a previous regime, and is a known stain on the Paramount legacy. I, and others, urge you to be on the right side of history and rectify this heinous act, with the addition of: “and Rob Lowe as Paul” above title. Thank you for your attention to this matter! RL

@DannyDrinksWine I wouldn't say 'trash' but man, it was awful compared to how much I loved Highlander when it came out. On the bright side, Christopher Lambert is the only Highlander, no one can replace him.

Thematically, the film’s ending is a tremendous example of irony. Had Neil Macaulay (Robert DeNiro) maintained the discipline he built his life as a profession thief upon, he would have flown to New Zealand and escaped to a new life, with Eady (Amy Brenneman) at his side, ready to start a new life together, but it was his loyalty to his compatriots and his focus on detail and completeness of the job that drove him to be sidetracked by the chance to inflict his vengeance upon Waingro (Kevin Gage), which lead Neil to be reengaged by Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino), ultimately leading to his death. Had he been able to let go of that need to close off every detail and express his vengeance against those who had wronged his friends, Neil would have survived, and Vincent would have been utterly frustrated. But his failure to focus on his escape, in yet another layer of ironic subtext, Neil’s loss allows the protection of unknown innocents via his execution of the serial killer Waingro, so there is still dignity in Neil’s sacrifice, even if it is unwitting. 🍿Heat | 1995

Friday Night Lights- the movie, not the show- is incredibly underrated. I personally think this is an all-time sports film, but I also grew up on this movie so I’m a bit bias. But Billy Bob Thornton is an exceptional actor who almost always delivers- including & especially here.

This is the foundation. The standard. The mindset. Winston Moss. Alonzo Highsmith. Jerome Brown. These were the architects of the program — leaders who made the U feared on Saturdays and respected (or avoided) every other day of the week. The only one missing is Melvin Bratton. You didn’t want to see these dudes on the field… and you damn sure didn’t want to see them off the field. That’s the Hurricane DNA the city remembers. 🟠🟢 Moss and Brown would tear your head off and if teammates didn’t play up to the standards, they would tear their head off too ask me how i know i was there.
