There's a common misconception that Brutalist buildings were unpainted, but thanks to microscopic analysis of the exteriors we can now recreate what they looked like in their prime.

@BrendanEich Just watched this for the first time last night, an excellent character study. The movie shows exactly why he was the first man on the moon. The Gemini docking scene was amazing!

youtube.com/watch?v=ESX9OB… Neil Armstrong (Ryan Gosling): "Going to manual." ... Buzz Aldrin (Cory Stoll): "Very smooth touchdown!" Neil Armstrong's Vitals During Gemini VIII and Apollo 11 During the Gemini VIII emergency, Neil Armstrong's heart rate remained remarkably stable, not exceeding normal operational limits despite the life-threatening spin. According to astronaut accounts and NASA discussions, his biometrics showed exceptional composure, with reports stating his heart rate "did not even get out-of-bounds." This calm under extreme stress was critical in diagnosing and resolving the stuck thruster issue. During Apollo 11's lunar landing, Armstrong’s heart rate spiked during the final descent, reaching a peak of around 150 beats per minute as he manually piloted the Lunar Module to avoid a boulder-strewn landing zone with low fuel. This was significantly elevated from his resting rate but still within controlled limits, reflecting intense focus rather than panic. Once the Eagle landed safely, his heart rate quickly dropped, demonstrating his ability to manage stress effectively.

youtu.be/rzuN9uvnsZI Armstrong's Response to the Crisis With the spin rate reaching 296 degrees per second and both astronauts experiencing blurred vision and disorientation, Armstrong took decisive action. Realizing that the OAMS thrusters could not be selectively shut off, he made a critical decision: he deactivated the entire OAMS system by throwing circuit breakers. To regain control, Armstrong activated the Reentry Control System (RCS)—a set of 16 thrusters located on the nose of the capsule, normally reserved for atmospheric reentry. Using these thrusters, he damped the rotation and stabilized the spacecraft. This maneuver was not standard procedure and required quick judgment under extreme stress. As David Scott later said: "The guy was brilliant. He knew the system so well. He found the solution, he activated the solution, under extreme circumstances ... it was my lucky day to be flying with him." #utp82Oq-1OWvVERDh-3iPiCpC2NH6Fv0XVwMRU9I8X8" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">search.brave.com/ask?q=how+did+…

@BillJelavich Mission depicted in Damien Chazelle's excellent FIRST MAN (2018). Some find too grim: Neil's little daughter Karen (died in 1962 of DIPG), T-38 crash (Elliot See & Charles Bassett), the horrible Apollo 1 fire (Grissom/White/Chaffee). It was real. I dug it. youtube.com/watch?v=ESX9OB…

Spotify needs to release a “kids” setting so I can play all the songs my kids listen to without it affecting my own Discovery algorithm. Insane that I can’t do this already. My Discover Weekly is just nursery songs and Moana. @Spotify please fix this.
