.@ezraklein is right. His thinking is rooted in Habermas, who recently passed, and who coined the idea of the public sphere and made the case for deliberative democracy. Habermas, like Ezra, understood that ideal speech conditions rarely exist in messy democracies and the key was engagement in many different communication spheres, even if imperfect, that could inform our decision-making.

Mining the Strait of Hormuz as a way to block international shipping signifies why the Iranian regime has got to go. They are a danger to the world. The fact that the Iranian regime cannot even demine the strait as per the ceasefire agreement strengthens this case.
