FYI - when the algorithm suggests that LOTR is both “too pagan” and “too judgy” you should probably ignore both, read the books, and wonder why your heart sings for stories of love, hope and redemption.

⚠️ Extreme wildfire risk across Texas today. Very dry conditions and strong winds could allow fires to spread quickly. ❌ Avoid outdoor burning 🚭 Dispose of cigarettes properly 🚗 Don’t park on dry grass

I’m filled with pride and gratitude for the way Fort Worth came together over the past week to keep our neighbors safe during the severe winter weather.   Thank you to our first responders – @fortworthpd , @FortWorthFire, and our EMS family – for answering the call when it mattered most;   to our 311 Call Center and Emergency Communications teams, who prepared months in advance and handled nearly 10,000 weather-related calls with professionalism and care;   to our Transportation & Public Works team that treated city streets with 3,700 gallons of brine and 1,600 tons of salt and sand to improve driving conditions;   to our Water Department crews, which worked around the clock to address and monitor breaks;   to our city staff and external partners serving individuals experiencing homelessness, getting folks into regular emergency overnight shelters and emergency overflow shelters; to our incredible partners like @oncor and @TrinityMetro whose seamless collaboration made a huge impact; and to the countless other partners, communities, local businesses, neighbors, and more who rallied together;   Your long hours, quick responses, and unwavering dedication helped keep our residents safe and warm. Fort Worth is stronger because of you.

🚧 🦺 Be mindful of driving near utility vehicles. Texas’ “Move Over or Slow Down” law requires drivers to move over a lane or reduce their speed to 20 mph below the posted speed limit when approaching utility vehicles stopped with flashing lights activated on the roadside.

Getting the lights back on starts with getting crews there safely. In icy conditions, heavy line trucks need more time and space to stop. Slowing down and increasing following distance helps crews respond safely.

Prep for winter storms includes getting materials where they need to be 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 the snow & ice start to fall. This week, equipment travelled from southern Dallas County to all corners of our service area - to ensure that it’s there, waiting & ready when our crews need it.

How can two official forecasts for Texas be 4x apart? In this clip from the Energy Capital Podcast, Nat Bullard the Co-Founder of Halcyon helps unpack two very different pictures of Texas’ future power demand. ERCOT’s forecast shows ~22 gigawatts of new data-center load by 2030. Transmission providers estimate more than 78 gigawatts. “One of these things is not like the other one,” Nat said. That’s 90% of today’s peak demand (85.5 GW). Just from data centers. Both projections are official, but they serve different purposes as ERCOT and utilities have different incentives. Transmission companies make money by spending money: they earn a return on every dollar spent on capital infrastructure. ERCOT – governed by the PUC appointed by the Governor – needs to look for "best fit" and guard against overspending. The truth probably lives somewhere in between the two forecasts. Developers often hold multiple queue positions, so projects can show up more than once. Cleaning up that data, what Nat calls “de-duping”, is how we turn forecasts into something useful. That process is getting started in Senate Bill 6 implementation. If we align planning with reality, we can meet demand growth without overpaying. That’s how Texas keeps its momentum for growth while controlling socialized costs: transparency, good data, and discipline. What do you think: which forecast is closer to reality? Or are both of them wildly off base? Can Texas continue to have 6% per year growth in electricity consumption while lowering electric bills for residential and small business customers? 👉 Link to the full conversation in the reply.
