@DrElisevdJ Busy mind Elise. On the way home on last week I forgot how to use my Apple wallet when paying for groceries. No card no cash. I literally stood there for 20 mins trying to work it out, then asked for help. 🤦‍♀️ Was told “technology!”

How my day is going: Tried to open my office door with the button on my car key…which took me longer than it should to realise why it hadn’t worked 😅

Advice for teaching often includes the directive to restructure complex tasks to avoid working memory overload. What is not mentioned is that working memory capacity more than doubles in size from ages 5 to 11.5 years, although within each age level there are also...

Your typical curriculum presents maths as a laundry list of skills. These are skills to be done one by one & ticked off when ‘completed’ (with little intention of revisiting what’s been done once). Yet, at the heart of maths lie connections. Read more. loom.ly/LjKqQQw

@mathillustrated I was so struck today by the lecture today and the discussions that it has ignited. As a practitioner, we need to keep the research methods in mind, remaining aware of classroom complexity. The mathematics community is truly outstanding.

Looking at the use of ‘evidence of’ and ‘evidence for’ in Ed research.’ by Prof Adrian Simpson. “You can’t build a nest with one stick.”Wonderful, thought-provoking! @icme_15 #icme15

@KrisWestcott1 Kris also maybe thinner and thicker sticks?! As small research studies are not ‘weaker’ just micro. What do you think?

@icme_15 panel on evidence in math ed was fascinating. What Adrian Simpson said resonated with me, that you can’t just interpret one experimental study to get evidence of ‘best practice’ or evidence-based practice. It takes a web, or nest of contextual studies. #icme15

A few takeaways from Prof. Kaye Stacey's Castelnuovo Award Lecture: Teachers need to have a 'bifocal' view, able to see & understand mathematics through the eyes of our students, and developing teachers PCK and content knowledge. BRAVO KAYE! @icme_15 #ICME15 #iteachmaths

@greg_ashman It is actually really wonderful to hear from people of different backgrounds, experiences and views from around the world, There really was something for everyone here. The mathematics community is just wonderful.

There’s a big maths education conference, #ICME15, happening now in Sydney. I was going to go, squared it with the boss etc. But when the program became available, I honestly could not divine in it anything that might make us better at teaching maths, so I didn’t go.

A remarkable woman, Kaye Stacey! Well deserved winner of the Emma Castelnuova Award for her over 40 years of research in mathematics education. Such a brilliant conference. Lucky to be part of this in Australia in 2024🥰#icme15 @icme_15

@MrDixonMath Welcome the chance to be challenged, and in the same thread, always have the courage to challenge. It’s what makes us grow in thought.

@bridgeenpritch Cheers Bridgeen! I’m trying hard to remain respectful but it’s been challenging when we have individuals and groups undermining high quality research and cherry-picking to build false narratives. I like to think I’m open to being wrong and welcome it.

I’d love to see education podcasters step out of their echo chamber and have guests on with views that oppose their own. #mtbos #mtcoz #iteachmath
