The UFO stigma is too loaded for some politicians to want to touch. They get the “foreign threat” pitch, so they’ll feel obligated (i.e. want) to respond

@Armassusi1 @theblackvault I admire people like Bowie, who didn't try to change themselves in order to fit in society. In the end, they just waited until society caught up with them. That is the nature of true social change

Update: Elon seems to be reinstating Graham's account and revising the policy that led to all this--the policy he never would have announced in the first place if he'd consulted with someone sane first.

The change of heart reflected in the two tweets below is notable not just because of how dramatic it is but because Graham is a highly respected figure in Silicon Valley. And btw, the second tweet apparently got his account suspended.

This was The Washington Post's @drewharwell's post before he was suspended from Twitter, outlining how Twitter suspended the account of its competitor Mastodon earlier today.

Also, how about royalties are paid based on percentage of training data used per artist (similar to spotify)? Just an idea, but it might be an easier problem than you’d think

Anyone know some people with integrity? Or do people like that avoid seeking out attention, admiration, and influence?

I always want to give people the benefit of the doubt, but many people in positions of influence disappoint me. It’s a difficult path to walk, especially when you lose touch; it’s easy to convince yourself that what you want is good for everyone. I want to believe in integrity.

I predict people will keep finding a way to avoid paying artists and songwriters for their work (and the small village that helps them), whilst coders get paid $600 an hour and tech bros feel entitled to getting music for free because they bought some monkey jpgs

Seems like a lot of people exclaiming “think of the children” believe children must be indoctrinated with their own personal ideals 🤔

We need a measure of value other than money, something irreducible that can’t be represented in terms of currency

If capitalism is so great, why does social participation require coercions like debt? Who signed up for this willingly?
