Hey, Andrew, you seem to be suffering from memory loss so let me help you out. At the last Tory budget, Jeremy Hunt left headroom of just £8.9bn (& that’s before the black hole). @RachelReevesMP has almost tripled that to nearly £24bn. She’s cleaning up your mess and Britain is more resilient because of it
Andrew Griffith MP@griffitha

In part it’s because the U.K. Chancellor has so little headroom after spending her first 20 months in office spending and borrowing like a euro millions lottery winner. Vapour thin headroom means every move in forecasts is amplified.

Today is the 423rd anniversary of the Union of the Crowns, 24 March 1603, when King James VI of Scotland (who became James I of England) was invited to take the English throne by key members of Queen Elizabeth I's government after the queen's death. It was followed 3 years later by the commissioning of the first Union Flag on 12 April 1606, to be flown from ships' masts 'to avoid contentions at sea'. God save the King!!!

@resfoundation Hello, can you produce a graph showing the GDP you claim Britain would have had alongside actual GDP on EU members so we can establish just how realistic your claim is. Thanks.

Brexit has likely done more economic damage than feared. Recent evidence suggests the economic cost of Brexit may be approaching twice the 4% impact assumed by the OBR. The Chancellor has signalled a shift in approach to EU trade, but the effect will depend on how far the govt goes on alignement.

Here's a chart for anyone still willing to believe that #Brexit has knocked 8% off the UK economy... The lines show what has actually happened to GDP in the UK, France and Germany since the vote to leave. The green unicorn shows where the UK would be if GDP were 8% higher 🤔

There is so much dishonesty about Brexit. The latest 8% damage figure is rubbish. Unfortunately the dishonest people who put this out know if they regurgitate these lies over and over, our media repeat it, and the public will believe it. It’s a disgrace. @TimesRadio

@GerryHassan Labour are in government now. Based on your comment I assume they have massively increased funding for our armed forces? And not actually cut it.

Penny Mordaunt railing away about the state of UK armed forces without a hint of apology. She was a minister for most of the 14 years of Tory rule which witnessed the strangling of the UK's military capacity. And she was even defence secretary for 5 mins. #bbclaurak

Ultimately, the UK govt will decide if it’s in the national interest for the King and Queen to go on a state visit to the US. Jobs, prosperity, and security are key. But polling suggests Donald Trump is almost as unpopular as Andrew here and the public don’t back war on Iran.

The decision to release the Nottingham killer was not down to the state of his mental health. Incredibly it was informed “by race research” and the fear of “over representation of young black males in detention.” Two lovely students murdered by ideology. thetimes.com/article/9621bf…

The Labour Government has now announced five inquiries by ethics watchdog Sir Laurie Magnus in the 18 months since the 2024 general election: Rachel Reeves, Louise Haigh, Angela Rayner, Tulip Siddiq and now Josh Simons. All the but one of the inquiries were in response to excellent journalism by Fleet St reporters.

No mention of the Epstein files in relation to Johnson, who along with Farage and Rees-Mogg colluded with Steve Bannon to remove Theresa May. How long are the BBC and the MSM going to ignore this? #MIPO #bbclaurak

I think @Gabriel_Pogrund is a phenomenal journalist but the omission of the year this happened - 2022 - is very important Most people don’t read beyond the paywall If you want to suggest a conspiracy of sorts then the fact it happened under the last Govt is VERY relevant

Interesting to see Starmer visit Gorton and Denton. PMs usually stay away from by-elections. Think the last PM to do it was Tony Blair in the late 90s. No idea if it will sway the result, but the vibe I'm getting since McSweeney left is that Keir seems to be making better calls.

Think it's time to get off social media for the night. Big couple of days coming up with energy bills. Ta for all the messages and comments good & bad, I underatand and will try to take both on board. I hope at least today raised attention of the student loan issue, particularly the coming repayment freeze (fiscal drag).
