+1,000 subscribers on Substack in ~5 days. Thank you. And a special thank you to the paid subscribers for supporting my work even though the articles published so far were free. Part III is now ready. It’s longer than the first two parts and focuses entirely on fat-loss pharmacology. The goal was to write something that brings together scientific literature, practical protocols, personal experimentation, and a Ray Peat–inspired metabolic perspective in one place. I’ll be publishing it very soon. For those who haven’t read them yet: Part I covers the nutritional and metabolic foundations of fat loss (Randle cycle, thyroid function, macros, fuel partitioning). Part II focuses on training, movement, sleep, and daily habits that support sustainable fat loss and muscle retention. You can read them here: berbarianwizard.substack.com

10 years of fat loss trial and error went into this. This is the most complete guide I’ve written on how fat loss actually works. Part 1 focuses on nutrition, Part 2 and 3 are coming. The article is free. Read it properly. berbarianwizard.substack.com/p/beyond-calor…

Ray Peat on thyroid hormone conversion: “If you were deficient in selenium, the correcting effect would be quick, but if there was a problem with intestinal flora, that would have to be taken care of before conversion was good. Other nutritional deficiencies could be involved. Daily raw carrot, weekly seafood and liver, enough sunlight and vitamin D, a good ratio of calcium to phosphate, are often helpful.” ... “Calcium (two liters of milk), vitamin D and plenty of orange juice sometimes help to regulate things by balancing the minerals. A daily carrot salad should keep the small intestine fairly sterile.” ... “The liver has to convert T4 to T3 for it to be effective. It needs glucose and selenium to make the conversion. Adequate protein, at least 80 grams per day, is necessary. Sea food, once a week will provide selenium, two quarts of milk and a quart of orange juice would provide many of the other essential nutrients. Taking T4 at bedtime sometimes is helpful. Most people feel best on a ratio of T4:T3 of 4:1 or less. Checking the relaxation rate of the Achilles reflex is a quick way to check the effect of the thyroid on your nerves and muscles; the relaxation should be instantaneous, loose and floppy.” ... “Free fatty acids are usually high in diabetes, and interfere with glucose use. Aspirin and niacinamide help to lower stress increased fatty acids, so allow exercised muscles to use more glucose. 2 or 3 mcg of cynomel with some food should help to avoid the adrenaline. Vitamins D and K, and salt and calcium, are other things that improve glucose use. Since the liver needs glucose and glycogen to convert T4 into T3, diabetes usually interferes with the conversion. A blood test could show if the ratio of 'T4 to T3 is very high.” ... “...women in particular tend to have problems because estrogen interferes with the conversion of thyroxine (T4) to the active hormone T3. So women always are more dependent on the actual preformed T3 and very often get an antithyroid effect from over-accumulating the pure thyroxine (T4) because the liver is our main source of conversion to the active hormone. And estrogen, the average woman will have a sluggish liver for the conversion or for detoxifying alcohol, for example.” ... “Sometimes selenium or getting more sugar in the diet, like orange juice, more frequently, sometimes that will get the conversion going. But sometimes a few doses of progesterone can shift the balance, activating the thyroid gland and liver, which will then tend to stabilize your blood sugar so that the glucose is available for doing the conversion of T4 to T3.” ... “The worst thing is to start out taking maybe your whole day’s dose (of thyroid hormone) all at once on an empty stomach before breakfast — the message goes to your liver that you have a gigantic excess of thyroid. And so you activate the liver to get rid of the excess thyroid. Your liver, in just 12 hours after you’ve taken that one morning dose, will create extreme hypothyroidism because it has learned to get rid of the excess, but then when you don’t keep adding it, your liver pushes you to a very low level. That’s one of the reasons a mixed product like natural desiccated thyroid, a product like Armour Thyroid USP, for example, has a reasonable balance, the same balance that you would normally produce with your own thyroid, or a synthetic such as Cynoplus, which has about four or five parts of T4 to each part of T3. So the T3 can activate your (conversion) processes and the T4 is available to continue to keep up your T3 level without at any time forcing you into the hyperthyroid state that you get when you take even 10 micrograms of Cytomel at once, which will give you the signal of excess that will lead to reduced thyroid function.”

Cancer is a metabolic disease - despite the immense focus on genetics. Every cancer has metabolic underpinnings that can be addressed to improve outcomes: ➜ Converting glucose mainly into lactate, which suppresses immunity and is oncogenic itself ➜ Acidity arises from this, weakening anti-cancer immunity and impairing metabolism ➜ Lack of nutrients / poor metabolism within the immune system prevents proper clearance, sustains pro-growth inflammation ➜ Metabolism shunted towards building and fermentation, away from maximal energy production ➜ Excessive reactive oxygen species production causes further inflammation, drives genetic mutations ➜ Metabolic changes in methylation, acetylation capacity and activity rewire genetic expression ➜ Every cancer has certain metabolic preferences that can be expoited The study below shows how restoring mitochondrial function can heal.

Good ways to lower cortisol: - Sugar (orange juice, milk, honey, white sugar, etc.) - More salt (experiment) - Gelatin/collagen/glycine - Coffee/caffeine with sugar - Progesterone (supplement) - Thyroid (prescription) - Aspirin (+ K2, glycine, bicarb) - Pregnenolone (supplement or ⬆️ cholesterol metabolism) - Red light/sunlight - Bag breathing/CO2 - Magnesium (glycinate/bicarbonate/topical) - Taurine (scallops, muscles, clams) - Theanine (white tea) - Niacinamide (supplement) - Carbonated Water (CO2) - Smiling/Laughter - Splash your face with cold water from an ice bath - Potassium (potatoes, OJ, banana, cantaloupe) - Cyproheptadine (see doc) - Earthing/Grounding
CowsEatGrass@CowsEatGrassBlg

My top cortisol lowering tips if stuck in stressful environment: -Purse your lips tight & slow your exhalations -Warm milk, glycine & sugar -Breath holds (15-20 seconds) or box breathing or other -Hum for a few minutes every hour or when you feel a need - Massage ears, head, neck, & shoulders (while humming) - Clench & release fists & feet - Reframe sensations (Feeling Overrides Nutrition style) “this is just adrenaline” - Warm shower & splash your face with cold water - Carb, protein & salt snack - I love Coke, but not for everyone - Self hug or lymph massage (pro tip- add humming) *What’s your favorite thing to do?*

@brodaclol Totally up to you but: • collagen dissolves in anything like sugar, neutral taste • gelatine must be bloomed and cooked so it’s better to add to soups stews and desserts • glycine whenever, also dissolves (and tastes) like sugar

The thousands and thousands of dollars spent on supplements all to just converge on the same four that Ray recommended from the start was well worth it.
