Today I have cleaned up a rather beautiful autochrome study of a windmill at sunset - taken in colour about 116 years ago - by the Belgian painter and photographer Alfonse Van Besten (1865–1926). It is an early colour glass-plate process and not colourised.

Only one chance in this lifetime… Like watching sunset at the beach from the most foreign seat in the cosmos, I couldn’t resist a cell phone video of Earthset. You can hear the shutter on the Nikon as @Astro_Christina is hammering away on 3-shot brackets and capturing those exceptional Earthset photos through the 400mm lens. @AstroVicGlover was in window 3 watching with @Astro_Jeremy next to him. I could barely see the Moon through the docking hatch window but the iPhone was the perfect size to catch the view…this is uncropped, uncut with 8x zoom which is quite comparable to the view of the human eye. Enjoy.

The word editor dates from 1649 but the word edit didn’t appear until 1791. That means that editors didn’t have a good word for what they did for 142 years.

@wilfredphua I mostly just read nowadays Yeah, as long as got clear video evidence 👌 And can remove audio if needed via iOS Photos app (edit sliders, then tap speaker icon on top left), or macOS QuickTime > Edit > Remove Audio

Let me take you back in time 98 years, to the summer of 1928. I have cleaned-up this autochrome shot of Anne Hathaway's Cottage in Shottery, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, which was taken by the visiting American photographer Clifton Royal Adams in 1928. It is an original colour plate process, not colourised.
