Sure, it’s all funny until somebody gets hurt. And even then it’s kinda funny.

Gonna miss Spirit Airlines. That’s not sarcasm, either. I actually liked them. 😔

I think the Iran war is a huge mistake, but Americans’ obsession with gas prices is weird and counterproductive. Also, the president in normal times has basically no control over them.

At 95, I'm still smokin'! 😝 I’ve learned two things: Never waste a good cigar. Never trust anyone who says you should ‘act your age.’ 😉👍🏻

The price mechanism is one of the neatest and most prosperity generating bits of economics. And one of the most emotionally disliked by humans right across the political spectrum.

@scottlincicome Wow, he really is ushering in a new era of peaceful global trade. Just without the U.S. as one of its participants.

"A key strategy India is relying on to tackle Trump tariffs is to diversify its export market along with striking trade deals with various countries. This seems to have shown some results." share.google/WUE5O3f6JaktOG…

Everything Price Sufferer (but especially eggs)
Another case of Trump being a bad president by choice and not by fumbling a crisis. I don't think we've ever had a president press a big red "kill the economy" button for literally no reason.

@TPCarney @JohnTierneyNYC Term limits. I used to think that was what voting was for, but I’m starting to appreciate the value of systematic guardrails.

@scottlincicome The downstream layoffs are spread over hundreds of factories. It’s a lot easier to send a news crew out to a closing steel mill to do 50 interviews at once.

Protectionists routinely decry economic "shocks" caused by import competition, yet they totally ignore the shocks - especially (but not only) to downstream consuming companies & workers - caused by their protectionism. It's a bizarre and telling omission.

This, plus a reminder: around half of all US imports are inputs for American manufacturers. So, for example, when you tax (tariff) steel imports (83k workers), you hurt all the US manufacturers that consume steel (~6.5M workers)

Joey Politano 🏳️‍🌈@JosephPolitano

Can't believe that Oren wrote a whole 2,000-word piece defending Trump's **universal** tariffs while only talking about manufactured imports and not justifying how Americans somehow benefit from tariffs on Brazilian coffee, Canadian oil, Chilean Sea Bass, French Wine, etc etc
