@live4footy @KieranJ_1979 @Erushforth1 @PlanItCoach Which could be too late as the player who was unmarked is now marked in the time it has taken the player to have turned and beaten his opponent, then been able to perceive the space they have and gather a picture of the pitch and which teammates are free to pass to

@bryansleftpeg @KieranJ_1979 @Erushforth1 @PlanItCoach And actually it doesn't prevent it if you can control the ball and turn with it. Players do that at pro level all the time. You're advocating a specific concept of football not football itself.

What do you feel is most important for our younger players? The obvious answer is all of the below, or a mixture of a couple but you must pick just 1 🤔

@live4footy @KieranJ_1979 @Erushforth1 @PlanItCoach I haven't decided it's the most important. They could compensate in certain situations yes but not in all. Being positioned facing your own goal with a limited view of the pitch prevents passes from being played forward to exploit spaces left in a defensive system

@live4footy @KieranJ_1979 @Erushforth1 @PlanItCoach What other ways of compensating would you expect to see? If these are sub optimal then we can guide players to reach a better decision and technical execution

@live4footy @KieranJ_1979 @Erushforth1 @PlanItCoach So by default then they aren't going to have learnt a very valuable part of the game, therefore limiting them. If they don't know what to look for then how are they going to observe it?

@live4footy @KieranJ_1979 @Erushforth1 @PlanItCoach At points in a session of course not, that'll be over coaching. At points yes as they will not have the underlying knowledge to help. Take for example body position this is something that enables better execution of actions. If it's not taught then players become constrained

@live4footy @KieranJ_1979 @Erushforth1 @PlanItCoach Just a handful of examples then. Dyson vacuum came from combining a cyclone (observed at a carpenters) with a traditional vacuum. Print presses from taking a process used in wine making. Of course the reason these were invented was to meet a need or they wouldn't have occurred

@live4footy @PlanItCoach Im intrigued, how do you think their roles are any different to a coach now? Then your dad was in the role of a coach. I'm sure when playing football at school the teacher would have been coaching you likewise when you were at a club.

@bryansleftpeg @PlanItCoach Indeed. None had a coach as you'd see it now. My dad also taught me things, I also played football at school, I also played for a boys club from 12 onwards. How did I learn to play well enough before 12? Kids do not need you or any coach to show them how to play.

@live4footy @KieranJ_1979 @Erushforth1 @PlanItCoach Of course they learn without a coach being present, through practise of what they have learnt. If you are running a training a session for anyone you should be coaching or there would be no point in turning up

@Erushforth1 @bryansleftpeg @live4footy @PlanItCoach See I’ve always thought that’s more important for decision making etc. Teaching technique is valuable. You cant learn to drive a car etc just by getting in & trying then failing. You need to be shown how and then make decisions about choices etc when doing it

@KieranJ_1979 @Erushforth1 @live4footy @PlanItCoach This is an important point. Away from organised football children aren't playing as much with different kids and learning to apply and adapt what they've learnt

@live4footy @PlanItCoach Pele was coached by his dad and by Waldemar de Brito (ex Brazil international). Best played for Cregagh Boys club. Charlton played school football - the way most were scouted for during the time before academies. Gazza played for Gateshead boys and joined Newcastle at 13

@bryansleftpeg @PlanItCoach Kids are not pros with careers. None of them had any coach as a kid. They played in varied age groups and learned by playing with and against siblings and friends.

@live4footy @PlanItCoach A human needs some form of guidance to improve, whether this is theoretical or practical is irrelevant as they overlap. If as teachers/coaches we just hope they get it we are failing them. We need to provide opportunities for them to fail and steer them in the right direction

@bryansleftpeg @PlanItCoach I once saw maradona do his turn. I watched, copied, got it wrong, tried again, failed, tried again, got it, kept going, mastered it. Who corrected me?

@live4footy @PlanItCoach You've missed my point. We learn through our interactions and corrections from others. This can't be achieved through simply letting kids figure it out for themselves. To think all of these players would have had as successful as career as they did without coaching is naive

@bryansleftpeg @PlanItCoach Yup, you've got it. Football or just a ball, provides its own feedback. If your action has intention and it doesn't work, you immediately receive feedback and can adjust. How did Best, Gazza, Pele, Charlton, Law etc all learn?

@live4footy @PlanItCoach You learn from those around you who correct you when you say things incorrectly. We constantly adapt and improve through our interactions with others otherwise there would be no point in coaches as the kids would just 'work it out for themselves'

@bryansleftpeg @PlanItCoach No it doesn't. How did you learn to walk, run, speak English? If you wany them to learn your very specific concept of "how" to okay football, there are many pedagogies to choose from. But no, it does not go against education. It goes against one way of looking at pedagogy.

@live4footy @PlanItCoach This goes against everything educationally. Kids aren't just left to work out how to multiply numbers together. They need guidance and teaching, the majority won't just figure it out for themselves or anyone would be allowed to teach them

@live4footy @PlanItCoach So a child attempts to play a pass over 20 yards with the heel of their foot. Never going to happen consistently

@live4footy @PlanItCoach So if a child was consistently making a mistake, say in the way that they were kicking the ball they shouldn't be corrected to help them improve?
