@sebkrier that being said I feel like I had to get over the fears somewhat before allowing myself to really see the counterexamples in front of me

@sebkrier I relate to both quite strongly, but my grown-isolated grandpa reconnect with lifelong friends acting like a silly 20y/o in hospice before he passed away, my parents shifted half their worldview after 50, and my grandma sees the world like a sharp open minded 40y/o in her 90s

When I was 20 my greatest fear was the slow atomisation of social relationships as one grew older. Now my greatest fear is calcification of beliefs and laziness/overconfidence taking over truth-seeking and epistemic flexibility. Before, the threat was external: the world thinning out around me, relationships becoming procedural, life becoming more siloed and inert. Now the threat is internal: the mind itself becoming cached, self-protective, and less permeable to reality.

@PaulaGhete reaching complete locked-in flow on really dumb tasks. I have intensely enjoyed hours of setting tables for 400 people, tearing down equipment at events, washing dishes in a large kitchen, ... it's like I imagine dancing must feel for other people

what is a normal thing that causes you an intense high? not drugs, normal things that do nothing for others but cause euphoria for you.

it's sort of a thing in hand-coding as well, but I feel like it's a bit less skewed

I wonder what the usefulness distribution of tokens during AI coding sessions is, it feels like it's easy to spend 20% essentially one-shotting a huge feature and 80% debugging/fixing something really minor

@yearning_slav TBC I think the practical focus is deliberate and/or a matter of personality, and it seems good enough on the basic mechanics. To me it doesn't imply that's all there is, but if you only read and follow this approach, something will be missing ("so you hate waffles?" etc.)

@yearning_slav It reminds me of a few times I had the strong sense of being rationally evaluated as a solution to "the bf/husband problem" instead of met/seen as a person. I don't really know how usual or unusual the degree of my need for that is, but it always seemed obvious and off.
