I find that much anti-communist sentiment boils down to the belief that people are lazy and won’t do good or work hard unless they are suffering. I believe the opposite: I think most people would do amazing things if they weren’t in dire straits constantly.

This is wrong. Every Modern govt (capitalist/communist) has a policy that every land is owned by the state. Govt allocate land for Estates, Investment. Government sell land to the public, so they can develop it. I am sure happens in your country too. Because State(Government) owns the land doesn't automatically mean you have a free land allocated to you at birth. That's delusion.

JAMB saw the impact Alex Onyia made with the South East Maths Olympiad, and instead of keying into it, they removed Mathematics as a compulsory subject in JAMB exams. So now, someone who wants to study Physics can enter university without passing Maths. 🙂
