as an adult going back to the game i’d only call taris a slog if i’m doing a level 2 run saving for jedi levels after taris. and that’s not even really a strictly optimal thing to do

@DragoonC89 i think the undercity sewers-vulkar base dungeon chain can be pretty rough especially if you didn’t stock up on medkits (the natural vp regen in kotor 2 gave me bad habits in 1) but otherwise it’s pretty clean and easy. i could get through it at six years old, anyone can do it

Been watching a lot of “idiot zoomer tries KotOR” videos on YouTube and idk if it’s just that I’ve had Taris memorized since I was 10 but I feel like the early game is not nearly as hard or tedious as these people are letting on

@bornposting like he’s a perfectly chompable pile of meat sure but it’s not the sort of attractiveness that makes me swoon and lose my composure. i’d bounce on it noncommittally, but that’s it. like many celebrities he doesn’t look like a “real” person.

the wandering soul on the other hand has a much more mystifying vibe to it. the much sparser npcs are more cryptic and the tone is sort of… somber? maybe contemplative? it’s hard to pin down. it’s almost silent hillish in a way despite not bearing much resemblance to silent hill

shawn and ace isn’t bad necessarily but it definitely gives a worse impression of the game with its first areas being extremely simple and linear with whimsical animal npcs that explain the game to you like you’re five

@browndwarf6 it speaks to a certain breed of small mindedness where these people both A. feel the need to be separate from “the mainstream” so they feel special and rogueish and B. deeply need mainstream authority figures to reflect and validate their feelings and opinions

@NeilNevins people are so resistant to the concept of having false memories or incorrect perceptions that they invented the idea that the universe in which they’re right has merged with a parallel universe where they’re wrong

most mansplainy I've ever felt was getting into a heated argument with a girl in my high school theater class that there was never a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon. this was like 2 years out from everyone having smart phones, so it was a lot of me repeating "your memories are false"
Ryan W. Mead@rwmead

Bill Watterson is incredibly protective and has never allowed his work to be used for merchandising in any way whatsoever (with two exceptions: a stamp and a workbook on using Calvin & Hobbes for reading comprehension; the latter on the condition it only have one print run)

@DUSKdev overly online gamers can’t stand it when games they don’t like get good reviews that they think are unearned because they can’t comprehend the idea that reviews are not an objective measure of a game’s quality nor are they supposed to be.

That Mixtape game doesn't really look appealing to me but I don't know why it's igniting 2014 walking sim discourse when that type of game has existed for years now in various forms.
