If you were born in Egyptian pyramid times, what else were you going to do? The most entertaining thing to be doing was building those pyramids.

The peasant agrarian class is a $900B+ market In the past 110 years and three separate kings, we built the greatest church known to mankind and imposed a 40% excise tax on prostitution

The IRL connection economy is a $400B+ market. And companies are racing to own it. In the last 6 months, $800M+ in capital was deployed on "IRL" bets. @Tinder invested $60M into a new Events feature for connecting matches in-person. They're pivoting to IRL and offering experiences such as speakeasies, raves, and pottery classes. @222place: raised a $10.1M Series A to curate blind social experiences for Gen Z. Personality-matched groups sent to hyperlocal nightlife events. @JagermeisterUSA launched BestNightsVC - the only venture fund in the world dedicated solely to nightlife and IRL connection. 16 portfolio companies across 4 continents. @timeleft: dinner with 5 strangers, every Wednesday. €18M ARR. 6,500 dinners/week across 200+ cities. Dion: members-only social app where the first move is buying someone a real drink, redeemed IRL. 10K members, 30K+ on the waitlist founded by @revekkapal. Pie: Bonobos founder @dunn built an IRL friendship app. $24M raised. 130K+ MAU. @weroad_official: group trips for 20-30 year olds who don't know each other beforehand. $150M valuation. Matchbox: is an algorithm-powered matching platform for IRL events and has powered over 100,000 connections. founded by @liamjmcgregor (prev @MarriagePact) New dating apps like Known @Celesteamadon, Cerca @MylesCerca, and Ditto @AllenWangzian are aiming to improve connection amongst young people. Billion-dollar companies are paying $$$ for community and events leads: - @AnthropicAI: Marketing Events Manager ($255k) - @tryramp: Community Manager ($223k) - @tryramp: Events & Culture Manager ($181k) - @duolingo: Senior Community Manager ($193k) - @NotionHQ: Community Programs Lead Everyone knows the more time we spend online, the more valuable real-life connection becomes. The question isn't whether IRL wins. It's who facilitates it best.

Game theory teaches: never enter a game you haven’t studied, never reveal your strategy until the incentives are locked, and never play to be liked, play to make the rules irrelevant by building leverage.

Okay this is funny..Someone is exchanging this 14 acre property in California for Anthropic equity. First instances of insanity before Anthropic’s IPO and guess what? There is more coming.

Got this today in my inbox: linkedin.com/company/114-in… "I own a 14 acre estate in Mill Valley, CA and would like to exchange the property for Anthropic equity (understanding in advance that this would be substantially above the valuation of Anthropic's last financing round, in the $800+ BB range)."

for a bunch of high agency people, those in sf esp are insanely bad at actually calling out bad behavior maybe they’re inherently just people pleasers, or maybe they all want to kiss the ring people only call out bad behavior when it becomes popular to do so

There are two ways you get a mentor: -You are unnaturally talented or gifted in some way that makes someone far more experienced than you so excited for your potential they want to invest in your becoming. -You remind someone of the younger version of themselves. That’s it.

I had a buddy in university who was genuinely smart, never missed a class, and would always be the first to participate. He never graduated because he was incapable of handing in any assignment. Could talk for hours on a reading, but would not write a single page and turn it in.

Unsolicited advice for John Apple - buy Wisprflow, retire the Siri branding, and make it the native support for voice - put a global stablecoin inside of Apple Pay and power commerce everywhere - iRobot is still a wonderful name for an Apple product

What I noticed is how much “fitter” (in an evolutionary sense) the environment is today This is by definition a marginal type of market production. And yet, you see lots of coolers, clean bottled water, disposable trash bags to keep everything tidy, generally good food health standards Nothing like what you would have encountered a century ago

Bezos is a very tragic story because he could’ve done everything he’s doing now years ago and it would’ve objectively been better. He doesn’t need 100 billion. Hell, you doesn’t need 100 million to do any of that. You can live 90% of the Bezos lifestyle on a rented yacht.
