I know its a bummer for people not to see their favorite game or characters adapted properly, but I think this is a much better route. It allows way more freedom. The GAMES often introduce new protagonists and tell new stories. I see this movie as an extension of that.

Resident Evil movie and Weapons director Zach Cregger was interviewed by The New York Times about his reboot. ▪️He's already beaten RE 9 twice. ▪️He is the biggest worshipper of the games, and his movie is not breaking the rules of the games. ▪️This film has a much bigger budget than Weapons, and Cregger was given carte blanche to reinvent RE with this film. ▪️Does not adapt to any specific story from the games, and contains no characters from any of the games.

@runebee Oh I see. Yeah idk! Like I said I’m not anti hype but I do think any RE movie without characters kind of ignore the draw of the games. Obviously games like 7 can get away with being new bc the gameplay is there to be RE. RE7 wouldn’t be RE if it was a movie

@runebee Yeah I guess I just wouldn’t say that that’s the appeal of the franchise. Like do people actually love RE because of its generic sci fi big pharma plots? I personally wouldn’t care for a movie about that even if it was RE. It’s how it uses that setup for gameplay/cool characters

@B1gDaddyMarv Resident evil is not a franchise you can do this with bc it’s not a world building franchise. Its plots and “rules” change every few years. It’s a series that lives and dies on its gameplay and characters. Take those away, and it’s nothing.
