Bloober's The Medium was impressive to me because they had a very good implementation using screen relative input. The sacrifice there was it requires a huge amount of motion matched animations and a very heavy/unresponsive character controller (maybe why they chose no combat).

I've spent years trying 2 fix the issues that come w using modern screen relative controls in a fixed cam angle game, the list of challenges are endless & many unsolvable. You either sacrifice the type of angles you can use (limited to 180 rule) or sacrifice responsiveness.

I will give a proper explanation because the replies are so rude. Fixed camera angles (w/o tank controls) require every cam angle to be very carefully authored to not reverse player input on cuts. Giving the player the ability to turn a tp cam prevents this authoring.

@PolyDepression easily 3 for me, has the best character designs of the series imo, the PAL box art is killer

there's something really comfy about starting a tutorial for implementing a new thing in your game and just chilling with the tutor as they walk you through everything. It's a nice breather from all the decisions you have to make alone otherwise 😆

the early re2 character concepts are really cool because they look so entirely 90s vs the final designs which feel more timeless. obviously the final versions of each character were the right decisions made, but it's fun thinking about a super 90s rendition of RE2
