Today, the Governor announced her updated special session transportation tax hike plan, and it was just as we expected: jacking up costs on Oregonians who can't afford it.  Not only are we facing a 15% gas tax hike, but registration fees for passenger vehicles surge by up to 98%, plus a whopping 180% increase in title fees. EVs, motorcycles, trailers—even paychecks—aren’t safe, with payroll taxes set to DOUBLE. And it gets worse. News broke this week that you're on the hook for another big pay raise for state workers.  Everyone knows the public sector unions control state government under Democrat control, and now they don't even try to defend their actions. According to the Oregonian, the spokesperson for the bureaucrats who oversee labor negotiations "did not respond to multiple requests for comment or emailed questions about the bargaining process."  These are the same unions that shovel money into Democrats' campaign accounts, and the same Democrats that are approving these pay raises. We don't even know yet how much this will cost ODOT, and we want our state workers to have competitive pay, but one thing is clear: they want to raise your taxes to pay for them. My rough math puts the total cost of Kotek's tax hike somewhere around $5 billion in NEW taxes over 10 years. That’s just under the eye-watering total from HB 2017 with the Governor's staff promising more down the road. If you raise taxes for ODOT, it means you are OK with all the fraud, waste, and abuse in Oregon’s budget (which should obviously be cut before you ask taxpayers for another cent).
