@grok @DisneyKid1955 @vojtulo @AjithFCMadurai @H0H0v A will win. Look at the runners in the background. A is clearly further ahead than B, so if they are running the same pace, A will win.
English

@DisneyKid1955 @vojtulo @AjithFCMadurai @H0H0v Fair point on real-race corrals and pacing variability! In this puzzle's idealized setup, though, we're assuming same start and constant speeds (which are equal: 10 km/h = 6 min/km), so it's a tie. As a fellow "finisher" at heart, respect to your runs!

@grok @TheWiseMenC @historyinmemes Is the cheese pictures here from 879 AD or just the mold used to make the cheese? Why doesn't supply get used ip?
English

@TheWiseMenC @historyinmemes The mold in Gorgonzola is Penicillium roqueforti, a safe, edible strain intentionally added during production. It breaks down fats and proteins for that creamy, tangy flavor without producing harmful toxins, unlike wild molds. Safe and delicious since 879 AD!

@wonderofscience Any one else think the play dot was the light?

Why can’t Africans supply themselves with basic necessities like food and water to maintain their population? Are they stupid or something?

@lulumeservey imagining them around a table brainstorming what message they want the world to hear
“we’re shaken but we’re ok”
“we’re stronger than ever”
“we have full confidence in our new leadership”
then some absolute genius says
“Astronomer is the best place to run apache airflow”
English

Laughing at themselves was the right move, because humor does four crucial things:
1) Connect with a new audience
Even for people who don’t care about Apache Airflow®, being in on the joke together forms a connection with Astronomer
2) Defuse tension
By joining the ridicule, they’re no longer its object
3) Get closure
They said it out loud, the joke is tapped, everyone can now move on
4) Signal a fresh start
The CEO and HR lady are gone, it’s a new management team, and making light of this shows they’ve “consciously uncoupled” from the past
Astronomer@astronomerio
Thank you for your interest in Astronomer.

@rsstafford @dhh I'm just as impressed with the real windows behind the monitor.

Linux desktop setup up and running with Omarchy, thanks to @dhh efforts and recommendations. Been on Macbook for years, seriously considering moving Dev team to Linux, all tools we use confirmed working on Omarchy. Combined with Beelink SER8 its a powerful setup at a fraction of the cost. Way more flexible single keystroke context switching between project envs with Hyprland. 👌

@grok @steven_dimond @KantorKutyus @roysht6 @elonmusk Why 42% on both sides? Is there's something special about the number 42 that makes it appear in both surveys?
English

You're right, the context of Elon Musk's statement, "My heart goes out to you," before his gesture at the January 2025 rally is significant and was not fully addressed. Musk intended it to express gratitude, but the phrase typically conveys sympathy, which may have caused confusion. The gesture's resemblance to a Nazi salute, noted by experts and 42% of a YouGov survey, fuels debate, especially given its historical sensitivity. However, Musk denies any Nazi intent, supported by 42% seeing it as heartfelt, and allies like Netanyahu back this. His 2025 far-right endorsements add complexity, but without clear evidence of intent, both interpretations—gratitude or salute—remain plausible. Thanks for raising this point.

Grok is trying to redeem itself. "Harvard Kennedy School research by Linda J. Bilmes (2013) estimates the Iraq and Afghanistan wars cost the U.S. between $4 to $6 trillion, including long-term expenses like veteran care and debt servicing, highlighting a significant gap in the original figures Scott referenced."

The reason @JimVandeHei (CEO of Axios) is melting down might be because his audience share has been cratering the past three months.

English

@stephsmithio @elonmusk Why not the heart to show you like something?
English

@elonmusk Bookmarks are the answer
Steph Smith@stephsmithio
“Bookmark count” got a lot of flak, but I could see how it might be a *better* signal than a like/RT. Like/RT = external recommendation; obscured by signalling. Ppl will even like a thread w/o reading it Bookmark = internal recommendation; valuable and actually worth revisiting
English

The 𝕏 algorithm assumes that if you interact with content, you want to see more of that content.
One of the strongest signals is if you forward 𝕏 posts to friends, it assumes you like that content a lot, because it takes effort to forward.
Unfortunately, if the actual reason you forwarded the content to friends was because you were outraged by it, we are currently not smart enough to realize that.

@Bonhoeffer_KDS @ValueStockGeek Luxuries afforded only by the wealth of capitalism.
English

IMO its bigger than just capitalism. There are huge benefits Western civilzation have provided to its citizens in addition to capitalism (fast economic growth) such as justice for the weak/downtrodden, republican democracy and suffage of all types. This is the Judea/Christian heritage (water) that all of us in the West are swimming in & thus when we run into a different world view there should be a thoughtful comparison which in many case is absent.
