Warmly welcomed Ambassador of Italy to Cyprus, Ms Antonella Cavallari, and had an insightful discussion on the work under way by the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU. We also discussed bilateral relations, further to the important decision in the context of @PresidentCYP @Christodulides’ recent visit to Rome, to elevate bilateral relations in a strategic framework. In the context of the regional developments, I conveyed my sincere appreciation to Italy for its immediate response in providing support to Cyprus. A tangible demonstration of the ongoing strengthening of the Cyprus-Italy partnership and of EU solidarity in action. #CY2026EU

Συναντήθηκα σήμερα με την Πρέσβη της Ιταλίας στην Κύπρο @ItalyinCyprus κα Antonella Cavallari. Κατά τη συνάντηση πραγματοποιήθηκε ανασκόπηση της κατάστασης ασφάλειας στην περιοχή και εξέφρασα την ειλικρινή εκτίμηση για το ενδιαφέρον που επέδειξε η Ιταλία και την άμεση ανταπόκριση και υποστήριξη προς την Κυπριακή Δημοκρατία με την αποστολή φρεγάτας στην περιοχή.

Minister @Antonio_Tajani met with 🇨🇾 Minister of Foreign Affairs @ckombos. 🗣️ "Italy supports the priorities of Cyprus’ 🇪🇺 Presidency: promoting enlargement and European competitiveness, and strengthening our common action in response to international crises. #Europe must play a leading role in negotiations on #Ukraine. We support the #US Peace Plan for #Gaza and its reconstruction needs, also within the framework of the @BoardOfPeace, where we are both observers. Stability in the Middle East — from Syria to Lebanon — is a strategic priority, also in relation to its impact on migration flows towards Europe. Cyprus is a key economic partner for us. Bilateral trade has exceeded €1 billion, and Italy is the leading EU country by export market share to the island. We aim to organize a business forum with 🇮🇹 and 🇨🇾 companies soon to further strengthen our cooperation."
