Timely and engaging panel discussion yesterday at the Circolo degli Esteri in Rome on “EU Enlargement: Geopolitical Necessity, Historical Choice", organised within the framework of #CY2026EU 🇪🇺🇨🇾, and co-hosted by the Embassy of Cyprus and #Diplomatia. The event brought together distinguished members of the diplomatic community and experts for a thought-provoking exchange on enlargement as a strategic priority of the Union, also in the context of the ongoing Presidency of the Council of the EU, in an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape. Sincere thanks to the Irish Ambassador H.E. Elizabeth McCullough @AmbIrelandRome, as the following Presidency of the Council of the EU, Counsellor @HannaPappalardo and Professor @mariagiuliaama for their valuable insights.

Two of the main priorities of the Cyprus Presidency were to put emphasis on the Middle East and the Gulf, and also on maritime security. These priorities have now became a factual necessity.
