@lupamo_Arnold @xsgames_ Yes, Sublime Text ships with a bundled Python interpreter and you can write plugins using the Python programming language. The editor is not quite as hackable as VS Code by virtue of this very custom plug-in architecture though, but you can get a lot of functionality out of it.

This is very important for people in leadership positions. “Hey, have a second?” can send someone with anxiety into a world of panic. Did I mess something up? Am I getting fired? Is my manager quitting? Is the company going under?

@KinseyAnnDurham Agreed. Having recently gone through the job search grind, getting those questions in interviews has done nothing but fuel my imposter syndrome.

It's depressing me that so many companies still do algorithm CS style interviews these days. They are beyond stressful, do not accommodate devs from diverse backgrounds nor do they reflect every day life as a developer: Pair with me on stories in your backlog.

@cyngus @jilljubs @eeeeaaii @techn0cratic Not to mention that starting a company for the sake of starting a company makes little sense and probably won't be successful. There needs to be some sort of passion for the problem being solved to drive start-up success.

@jilljubs @eeeeaaii @techn0cratic Also, not everyone has picked up the skillset to be a startup founder and has the desire to do so. Building a great company from zero takes a mix of skills, usually not found all in one person. The difference, generally, between 25 and 45 is that recognition.

As fucked up as it is, if you have 20+ years of experience and are applying in the tech startup world, I would advise you not to put that on the top of your resume. Ageism is a BITCH in our industry.

The HEY stack: - Vanilla Ruby on Rails on the backend, running on edge - Stimulus, Turbolinks, Trix + NEW MAGIC on the front end - MySQL for DB (Vitess for sharding) - Redis for short-lived data + caching - ElasticSearch for indexing - AWS/K8S

@BigDataDude408 @dhh NoSQL is not a catch-all solution. RDBMS's very much have their place and are optimal for many workloads. Plus, MySQL and PostgreSQL have JSON column types if you need flexibility.

@rchavik @dhh @dvassallo Android does not have the same technical restrictions and can run unsigned code. This is why app stores like F-Droid are able to exist and be ran by anybody.

@rchavik @dhh @dvassallo No, because of technical restrictions on iOS, you must use code signing certificates provided by Apple in order for your code to run on the device. The only types of unlimited distribution certificates are Enterprise and App Store. Enterprise is only for businesses per TOS.

Wow. I'm literally stunned. Apple just doubled down on their rejection of HEY's ability to provide bug fixes and new features, unless we submit to their outrageous demand of 15-30% of our revenue. Even worse: We're told that unless we comply, they'll REMOVE THE APP.

@kdaigle Switching to CLion as my C++ editor of choice was instantly valuable. Its remote GDB support is fantastic when developing against specific OS and hardware constraints that make VMs unusable.

What is your favorite developer tool these days? Bonus points if it's "new" either to you or the world and has quickly become critical to you. (I love finding niche, super powerful tools.) 🤓

@TourDeDave @avdi I don't even think whitespace is what Python deserves the most flack for. It's worst in class with dependency management. Which causes significantly more headaches (at least for me).

@bphogan Stuff changing and my personal preferences are why I try to always frame my dislikes about technologies as opinions and then give positives about the same technologies. There is no one perfect language.

Short thread: New developers don’t know what they need to know. They are asking their mentors and teachers what they should learn. And those teachers and mentors need to reflect on how their biases impact the advice they give.

@Spotify you really need to get rid of the 10,000 song limit on the "Your Library" feature. Or at least add playlist folder support to your API so we can workaround it.
