Winter started in Gaza and the situation is beyond catastrophic. The roads and camps are flooding with rainwater and sewage! The two youngest children are ill from the unsanitary conditions, one sister has severe burns from an earlier incident, and another suffers from a chronic ear bone infection that causes constant pain and may require surgery. The remaining siblings are weakened by ongoing malnutrition and lack of food. With no steady income and medicines only available at high prices outside hospitals, Basem struggles daily to afford burn creams, IV antibiotics, ear drops, painkillers, and basic nutrition for his family, doing everything he can to keep them safe and cared for.

Having been displaced nine times since the genocide began, most recently from areas now declared dangerous red zones, she and her mother, who has diabetes and severe joint pain, must move again, but cannot afford the high fees charged for safe passage out of the area. Asmaa was herself injured when an airstrike hit their neighbours, and in earlier attacks, she lost both her father and her brother. Unable to pay her university fees, she could not complete her studies in 2023 and is now focused only on finding food, water, medicine, and a secure shelter for herself and her elderly mother as they prepare for yet another evacuation.

Again not all camps in the Gaza Strip are equal and face the same challenges. This particular camp in Deir El Balah, Sit Amira, flooded due to the it’s low surface level, help here: chuffed.org/project/149178… Aside from tents & tarps, we are exploring other ways to support such camps, like providing truckloads of sand. Each truckload costs around $1,700 and one camp would need 2-3 truckloads so an average of $5,000 per camp. The demand in Gaza is really high due to the huge need and the lack of support, especially with donations dropping drastically since the “ceasefire” but the Sameer Project will do what we can. Our team is currently contacting different truck drivers to see how we can support Sit Amira camp but we need your support.
