@JimBethell Yet 55% of ICBs seem unconcerned that their policies are not aligned with NHSE policy on access to liothyronine for those patients who need it. Patients deficient in hormone T3 need Liothyronine - a synthetic version which helps to control metabolism + reduce the risk of obesity

@BBCHughPym Meanwhile @BBCHughPym most hypothyroid patients are STILL refused Liothyronine (T3) they need in order to function. This isn't about weight; it affects evry aspect of our lives. The scandal began in 2016. Thyroid groups/charities fighting hard. Please can we discuss with you?

Common sense has prevailed. My Endo reassured my surgery that an over range result after recently taking T3 is not a big surprise. Provided I am not experiencing a racing heart or tremor nothing to worry about. Surely important this should be understood by doctors and nurses....

My GP surgery ordered several blood tests. I had no idea thyroid hormones were being tested, so took my liothyronine as usual. GP has confirmed he's written to my Endo because my T3 is over range. What a waste of all our time. I have Central hypothyroidism and polymorphisms 🤦🤷

@Eur_Thyroid_J Can this please also be done on the current state of hypothyroidism treatment? But it must involve patients. It's widely known that 15-20% hypo pts left very unwell. A huge number. T3 isn't a panacea for all, but can transform lives. This situation can't be allowed to continue.

@DrHoenderkamp And thyroid disease. Countess people (almost all women) are not diagnosed properly with hypothyroidism, very many (up to 250,000) are not made well on standard treatment, but noone seems to care. Training is poor. Patient groups are the only support. Scandalous situation.

I have been saying this for several years and I would add to the list diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and autism in this age group. Oestrogen is a crucial hormone for women, lose it and things don't work in the same way as they once did.

@PoonehSarmadian @campaign_itt An individual approach is key. T4, T3, TSH levels AND symptoms. And T3 as well as T4 medication. In UK we often don't have this. Patient groups fighting very hard. Some wins, but many drs highly resistant to change.

There's no NHS data on hypothyroid pts, yet thyroxine is 3rd most Rx drug in UK. Many patients never well on it, debilitating fatigue, brain fog, depression, weight gain, unable to work. Pts refused 2nd line option @wesstreeting @NHSEngland wake up! Talk to @campaign_itt please

@PoonehSarmadian Under-recognised? The crucial need for optimal diagnosis and treatment of hypothyroidism. It can be life changing if not done properly. Clinical training (in UK) is poor, pts left on scrapheap. Full thyroid tests needed, T4, T3 as well as TSH.

Patient goals are freq. marginalised by those most able to help thyroid patients. If patients can keep up to date with the 'new' science, why can't physicians? Relegate the TSH. Acknowledge the essential nature of T3. Note the risks of Levo. Don't make false claims about T3 risks

This quoted reply says it all. It's now well-known that some patients need T3. T3 is not dangerous, when used properly - like all medications. Hypothyroid pts feel left on the scrapheap, not listened to, gaslighted. 2026 must be when T3 is accepted by all clinicians

@TheEndoSociety What about patients' goals? We need the mess that is T3 treatment to finally be sorted out. Countless 1,000s of pts desperate for agreement on T3 prescribing. It's often transformational, yet we are denied it. Wake up to this in 2026, finally, PLEASE. For the good of us patients.
