so i do want to extend my grace and understanding but it’s a service we pay a lot for; if their free infra is causing problems, that’s their problem and their constant evolving feature set is part of why it feels their priorities aren’t right

and they’ve been providing free infra to millions of people, which obviously could never scale but that’s easier said than done to rewind

i think lots of ppl would have a lot more grave for githubs scaling challenges if it didn’t feel like they spent the last 2 years shoving down ai features down people’s throats

my samsonite carry on that I’ve bought 15 years ago and took over to 25 countries is still going strong…which should make me bullish for samsonite but also totally get why that’s bad business

Goddamn I just love building with @modal. It's just so good as a product. I've thought this for years and it remains the case.

For the last few months, and even last week, the consensus narrative was that Anthropic was running away with it and OpenAI was dead. I was one of the VERY few people who said that was wrong idea and as OpenAI trained new models on newer advanced Nvidia GPUs, they would bounce back strong. I was right. GPT-5.5 is a big hit with devs. It's a race again. The game is back on.

OpenAI is back, folks. Told ya! Note: Anything written by @JordanNanos 's team kicks ass. "First we have to highlight GPT-5.5 from OpenAI. In our view, GPT-5.5 is now materially better at some tasks than all other models. We believe that GPT-5.5 has arrived at the frontier. This is a huge change from November when Opus 4.5 was released." "GPT-5.5 is now integrated in our daily work." "many people have been accusing Anthropic of intentionally degrading the 4.6 model on the lead up to the 4.7 release. Anthropic has categorically denied these claims, but multiple engineers at SemiAnalysis independently said that over the last few weeks the changes in 4.6 performance have made them “feel a little schizo”. And of course, they were right." 🤣 "SemiAnalysis is famous (infamous?) for shilling Claude, and we’ve been testing GPT-5.5 as part of an alpha program with OpenAI the past few weeks." "Now, most of our engineers switch between Codex and Claude models depending on the task and IDE preference."

as someone who is regularly asked “is this your real name” i empathize with luckey
Clifford Asness@CliffordAsness

Jaysus this escalated. First I tweeted something dumb about a company I didn’t follow (because I mostly don’t follow individual companies — that theme will repeat soon). Thought it was just another Allbirds, wanted to make a stupid scatological joke, and wanted to post my favorite paper from the dot com bubble. My bad. Then @PalmerLuckey told me it was a “dumb” tweet. He was right, but I didn’t appreciate the phraseology, and yes, didn’t recognize him which I absolutely should have. My bad again. I have (as anyone who follows me knows) a very low tolerance for anonymous trolls and way jumped the gun based on past bad experiences. Having said that, unlike regarding @PalmerLuckey, I also yelled at a bunch of actual anonymous trolls, and this I do not take back. Though I’d like some points for providing you all with entertainment AND for not deleting the original tweets. I just think that’s a weak move. You take your lumps and you move on. I’m not above deleting a tweet occasionally, but I try not to especially when I’m wrong. So, happy to have helped the twitter-verse enjoy Friday. Have a nice weekend. And, finally, I’m seriously considering starting a bank based on the characters of Robert E. Howard.
