🇹🇷 New footage has emerged of the attacker, İsa Aras Mersinli, who shot and killed 9 people and injured 13 in Kahramanmaraş today. The video was reportedly recorded by classmates shortly before the attack. The attacker died by suicide.

@Ofer_binshtok The reason of the decline in Christian population in Turkey is: The exchange of population between Greece and TR in 1920's. The attack on Greeks in Istanbul in 1960's. Since the year 1990 tens of thousands of Turks had converted to Christianity and did not face legal persecution

@Ofer_binshtok As a Christian living in Turkey and as a person who doesn't vote for this government i can assure you that in the year of 2026 Christians are not under any legal pressure in Turkey. We can practice our religion freely thanks to the secular system founded by Ataturk.

Only about 0.2% Christians are left in Turkey today, in a region that was once almost 100% Christian. Muslims pose an existential threat to Christians.

@SethDillon @GuntherEagleman Not trying to defend Pope or trying to undermine J D Vance but The Old Testament has been nailed on a cross we live under the New Testament which is against war openly. If you follow Old Testament how can you hope to be saved by grace instead of good deeds.

@GuntherEagleman He's right, but doesn't go far enough. It's not just a thousand-year tradition. The Bible itself is filled not just with warfare, but with God's commanding it. The claim that God is "never on the side of those who wield the sword" directly contradicts Scripture.

Fun fact - Istanbul is a word derived from Greek (yup) - eis tin polin, meaning literally "(in)to the City" After Fall of Constantinople in 1453, and the end of the Roman Empire, the city retained its name, though in Turkish, as Konstantiniyye. Only after 1930 was the name Istanbul adopted as the official name of the city.
