a few days ago our biggest loom -> @Cap migration was ~9,000 videos for a large organization today, that record is now 21,862 videos! migrations are fun... and we're getting good at them 🫡

Cap web had some intermittent downtime today. Some dashboard/API requests worked, and others failed. We’re sorry. You trust Cap with important recordings, and today we fell short of that trust.

It tests real recording failure modes: FPS mismatches, dropped/delayed frames, static-screen gaps, pause/resume, unusual audio devices, silent or bursty system audio, mic + system audio, and platform-specific AVFoundation/WASAPI paths.

The suite drives Cap’s real recording pipeline with synthetic cameras, screens, microphones, and system audio. On relevant PRs it runs 39 sync cases per OS, 117 total. Nightly, it expands to 73 per OS, 219 total, with seeded randomized device shapes.

We’re tightening the quality gate for every PR that touches recording, playback, encoding, or sync-sensitive code. We’ve added a dedicated A/V sync test suite in GitHub Actions across macOS, Windows, and Linux.

Separately, Cap desktop v0.5.3 introduced a regression for some users where recordings could fail to sync correctly, or appear as a blank screen in the editor on Windows. This has been fixed, and v0.5.4 is shipping shortly.

Root cause was an app runtime bug in our Effect-based error handling that caused certain server requests to crash. This was not a database or data integrity issue. User data and recordings were not affected. The fix is live and logs are clean.
