I am serious when I say the Mavericks will never recover from this Doncic trade. It's not just trading away one guy. It's trading away the future of an entire franchise. Beyond the talent given up for an aging asset, Doncic was set to earn a 100M extension supermax next summer. Screwing a homegrown star out of that much money to save on the back end is clear indication to any NBA player that Harrison/Adelsons can't be trusted to do right by him with regards to financial outlook. Dallas almost certainly never have a player better than Doncic, but now, they will not be able to acquire players of even All-Star quality. They cannot be trusted as a FO, and players, but more importantly, agents, now know that. Any player worth his value will never do business with them. The damage this single trade has done is almost unfathomable, and could legitimately result in this franchise's relocation. The Mavericks will suffer serious consequences in revenue, viewership, merchandise, and ticket sales. Nico Harrison/the Adelsons have completely annihilated this franchise, a franchise with some of the best fans in the NBA. I never understood how someone could switch professional teams, but now I do. How you could put your faith in an org where the GM flippantly said he wouldn't be around long enough to feel the effects of this is impossible to understand. #MFFL no more.
