"Jesus’s ministry formally begins at his baptism, a descent into and rising up through water. This descent and rising both reveals Jesus as the one who will fulfill every angle of God’s multifaceted pattern of creation and previews how he will do so at the cross. In his crucifixion, Jesus is exiled to the captivity of the grave, and, fittingly, on the third day he rises in life as a new creation through the waters of death. Like Noah, he carries his people through the judgment flood, and like Moses leads all who follow him on a new exodus into communion with God." logos.com/grow/typology-…

This is the liberating revolution that comes with the promise of an eternally complete God: God doesn’t need you. And he doesn’t need your obedience. The Triune God lacks nothing, possesses everything, and is in his very being eternally full of perfect love and maximal joy. Your obedience cannot add to him, and your disobedience cannot take away from him. So when God commands you, he’s not doing it to satisfy some unmet need in his internal life—his commands are not for him. Who are they for? They’re for you. cateclesia.com/2026/02/02/the…

The nature of government and the nature of justice require that migrants have a fair legal process for determining innocence and guilt, especially given a robust theological anthropology that affirms both the image of God and the fallenness of humanity. cateclesia.com/2025/07/16/why…

As this year draws to a close, I'm thrilled to share that I've just finished the manuscript for my next book—a brief, layperson-oriented look at the imprecatory psalms for @theopolis and @AthanasiusPress.
