@TrillianAstra12 Youth turnout is a symptom. A healthy polity encourages civic participation to create traditions and encourage stability. Youth turnout is *discouraged*, because it tends to oppose short-term gains that lead to long-term losses — since youth will be around to pay the piper.

Britain was sold the idea that Brexit would mean "more," when in fact it had to mean "less." Maybe "less" is a sacrifice worth making for greater national sovereignty - if you are aware you are making the sacrifice. Worryingly, it seems even national leaders were not aware.

@TrillianAstra12 @davidfrum Even if Labour repairs the EU relationship, the UK will only be allowed back in if they follow the same rules as everyone else. They can have prosperity back at the cost of their pride and their adamant sovereignty demands. This too is a price of Brexit.

@TrillianAstra12 @davidfrum They’re not the same thing at all, but throwing out the stories doesn’t push a reset button. Britain had a bunch of sweetheart deals with the EU they got in the ‘70s with a stronger bargaining position. Those are gone and cannot return.
