@leah_hat I literally had this argument with a doctor once. People are so set on belittling loss.

I had to learn what a chemical pregnancy was because I had one! And I still have to hear people (out of ignorance, not malice) tell me it wasn’t a “real” pregnancy. It’s hard to remember that so many other people never have the grief or loss that I carry with me every day.

Had a moment recently with a (very dear!) friend who is pregnant with her 4th under 5 where she said something about “chemical pregnancies” being false positives. I had to tell her that no, they aren’t, it’s just a very early miscarriage. And she was shocked and felt terrible for thinking otherwise!

We're officially starting the process of searching for a second youth minister to hire. Staff has been told, so I can talk about it now, and portal will open soon for applicants. Praise be to God on High!

@PappaSciarappa I wasn’t doing to badly with it until the bus was late and I had to figure out what was going on, contact parents about being late, and find a priest to say Mass for us because we very much missed the 5pm at the parish. That was hard 😅

I’d never really considered the problem before, but a retreat is proving extremely difficult to lead without a voice.

It turns out I generally rely way too much on the fact that I can project my voice louder than the average middle schooler.

The worst part of Lent is that the church microwave smells perpetually like fish.

I know people in general dress very casual nowadays, but if you pay for orchestra level seats for an opera but can’t bother to get out of your pajamas you absolutely deserve all the judgy looks the rest of the audience is throwing your way.

@acatholicgeek I literally just answered a phone call from a woman who was mad that we have no children’s activities happening DURING the Mass. I don’t get it.

We had a conversation in staff meeting about children's dismissal at Mass How we stopped doing that and don't want to start it up again But people ask for it! So now we're brainstorming ways to better educate on the importance of and empower families to attend Mass together

do you think the furniture rehearsed Be Our Guest beforehand or was that the first-ever runthrough

@PappaSciarappa @acatholicgeek I’m at year five and while I love my side gigs and part time work too, that’s not sustainable once I have children.

@catholicsparrow @acatholicgeek The work is hard- and not having to worry about getting a side gig, or how to pay bills would help me stay longer. Then again, i'm at year 11

@acatholicgeek @PappaSciarappa Oh it’s fine. Just use all your sick days. There’s no reason a new mom would need sick days once she went back to work anyway. Children are famously very healthy always.

@catholicsparrow @PappaSciarappa The work is hard but that's not what makes me consider other options sometimes. It's that when you do this work well? you get another job added to your list instead of getting more help. When you want to have a family? you're told there's no plan for that. and it wears you out

@acatholicgeek @PappaSciarappa I love my job. I love what I do, and I love the kids I work with. There are few things I hate more than the Chancery HR department. The diocese mentions all the time that the average time someone spends in YM is 5 years. They claim it’s because the work is hard. I don’t agree.

@catholicsparrow @PappaSciarappa ^ it feels like raising a family and doing ministry is only an option for the ones who have a spouse with a much better paying job, and that's not often the case nor should it be relied upon.

@PappaSciarappa I completely understand lower salaries for the sake of ministry, but it very much seems that the church goes out of its way to make it impossible to raise a family and do ministry at the same time.
