when the first news of Covid began to enter the news cycle many (of us) did not pay much attention to it; when scientist-friends of mine began to speak of it, so strangely I seemed not to "hear." only on March 20, 2020 when my university abruptly shut down & sent all students home did it strike us how serious the situation was; being in denial was swept aside within an hour as the real world rushed upon us. truly hoping that this new virus can be contained so that our natural predilection to deny its significance will not also be swept aside with rude abruptness.
