@cbjpocke

Fan of the Blue Jackets just starting to get my thoughts out there. May be occasional Horror, TTRPG , Anime or whatever else I am hyperfixating on.

I'd love to see some more elaborate numbers (puck movement, zone time, shot location, etc) but you have to think there's a decent-sized element of making vs. not making shots in all of this (especially during the heater).

The Bowness-coached Jackets have some really interesting numbers at 5v5 this season: - during their 19-3-4 start: 53 xGF%, 102 PDO, 61 GF% - during their 2-8-1 finish: 53 xGF%, 98 PDO, 42 GF% Shot share was consistent, but SH% and SV% went from awesome to awful.

An emotional and angry Rick Bowness goes OFF on his #CBJ team after their 2-8-1 finish to the season: “These guys, they don’t care. Losing is not important enough to them … If I’m back, we’re changing this freaking culture.”

#CBJ Coach Rick Bowness says he’s put the new lines together in pursuit of more offense saying, we don’t have a forward in the top 60 in scoring in the league so we need to do it by committee. Jet Greaves gets the net and there could still be a gametime decision or two.

Wait the change may have been two seasons ago, I have to double check. Anyway, another place you can see it is in the number of shots against dropping.

As far as I understand, GOALS aren’t up this year, but save percentages are down a bit — see GAA. This is bc of a change in the way shots are recorded. Basically in past years, the same period may have been recorded as 11 saves and 1 goal (.917) might now be 9sv and 1G (.900)

It really is amazing how goals are up and save percentages are down in today's NHL. The Wild have the 4th-best goals against average in the NHL at 2.82 and highest save percentage in the league at .907. Minnesota and Colorado are the ONLY NHL teams with save percentages over .900 These would not be all that impressive numbers in yesteryear.

Within these details is a case for Carolina's scouting advantage. It's tempting to write off their approach as "undersized, underscouted and NHLe" but I think they're onto something else: space control. I think that's the hidden skill that drove Florida's cup too.

#CarolinaCulture Jackson Blake put on a complete show of play-driving and play-making by being involved in every single load-bearing play on this shift. You don't have to be huge and fast to win, you just have to play space better and stick to some simple principles.

Super excited to share my project from the 2026 HALO Hackathon, Rating Forecheckers Through Spatial Tree Boosting. This was my first time working with SportLogiq data it was really interesting to see the private data side. #HockeyHALO2026 @elawing1018/rating-forecheckers-through-spatial-tree-boosting-eaa8f68fca6b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@elawing1018/r…

Tough loss for the Jackets last night in an otherwise spectacular week as they continue their surge to the playoffs. Outchancing teams 53-27 at 5v5 in these three games with some dominant performances on the forecheck.

about 70% of point production can be explained after adjusting for a player's QoT/QoC/PP, so after accounting for how an avg. dman would score w/ the same usage, the rankings look very different 1. Werenski +34 2. Hutson +32 3. Bouchard +15 4. Hughes +10 5. Makar + 5

Defensemen points leaders this season: 78pts — Evan Bouchard 69pts — Lane Hutson 69pts — Cale Makar 69pts — Zach Werenski 67pts — Quinn Hughes This is going to be a sick Norris race.

Been hard at work with LB-Hockey.com the last couple months to overhaul our data pipeline. All of our non-microstats or contract data is now collected & cleaned in-house directly through the NHL API, and we’ve built our own expected goal/value models attached to it!

65 seconds. 3 shifts. 2 goals. 2 fights. The most electric minute of hockey of the #CBJ season. Nationwide went absolutely ballistic. This building need playoff games.

the slavish devotion to ranking hockey players solely on their offensive contributions needs to be studied for generations.
yolo_pinyato_is_dead@yolo_pinyato

@lgmigk @DavidJ_Cole @JoeyOil29 @DJ_Bean scoring points is very important to winning a ring which is why one guy has won the Art Ross and the Stanley cup the past 30 years (& that was two decades ago) whereas its happened 9 different times for the selke winner. there's more to hockey than just offense my friend.

seen there's been a surge of support for Evan Bouchard to win the Norris, because he's been scoring a lot of points...but uh...scoring points is a little easier playing next to McDavid than say...Charlie Coyle.
