The sequencing of our midfield recruitment feels entirely backward. If Mateus Fernandes and Baleba are missing the World Cup, and we already know Anderson is unlikely to join, why hasn’t the club prioritized signing them first over Éderson? I’m convinced that if INEOS had wrapped up two marquee midfielders first, people would’ve been far less concerned about Éderson joining as a depth option.

I don't know how I feel about this... People say he’s the third choice but even if that’s true, does it make sense to spend money on a backup before you even know what your first options will cost? You need two quality midfielders, right? You’ll be negotiating big fees and knowing how clubs price United, you’re probably looking at £70–100m each. So is it really smart to commit part of your budget to a backup before any of that is even sorted?

When Tuchel was linked with United, I was told that he didn’t rate our squad and that was the reason nothing progressed. Since then his selection for England kind of has showed his thinking method. Personally, I don’t like Tuchel’s thinking. I think Maguire should have been selected.
