@slmandel Not a totally true statement. The discussion of 5/5 has been going on for over a year. The question was when exactly it would be implemented and how. The NCAA waited until the end of the school year to pass and excluded the class of 2022, which they could have included.

Thousands of athletes suddenly have a fifth year they weren’t expecting, but with roster limits and no portal window, won’t be many spots. Meanwhile anyone who signed a pro contract is still ineligible, going to have to file their own lawsuit. And school is about to start.

Judge Sweeney has issued an order clarifying the scope of the injunction issued Friday night. In doing so, she clarified that her injunction ONLY grants athletes in the class a fifth year. It *does not* enjoin transfer rules, roster caps, rev share caps, etc.

@GoodmanHoops @TheFieldOf68 No one is forcing programs to kick kids out or even bring athletes back…. Or… maybe just allow the cap waiver like they did during Covid. Problem solved. Lack of preparedness from the ncaa does not constitute an emergency as an excuse.

@BriBo94 @slmandel Very similar to the class of 2022. Covid exemptions and the Junior college decision impeded the HS recruitment. At least we now have age limitations. That can/will open some slots?? NCAA should adjust the cap to account for this decision.

@slmandel Thousands of emails will be sent to HS Sr recruits in non-pro sports telling them there's no room on rosters next year because grad students are going to come back and play & SRs get another year. No spots will be open. Nightmare for my daughter who's a 2027 softball recruit.

@HurleyMediaG Agree with many points. Hope is this is one of many steps taken as college athletics move forward. Most institutions receive private and public funding. I’m thinking they add language in state and federal grants that would address some of the additional issues.

The narrative that realignment is over is short sighted. Capping is not the same as cementing. All this really does is prevent the super league. The long term result will be more conferences evened out. These schools can't go from one P4 to another, but they can collude to jump to a current G6 conference or just make a new one overnight. If I was Paramount, Apple or Amazon, I would take a page out of Fox and ESPN's book. Get in the ear of a few under appreciated SEC teams, a few mid B1G teams, one or two ACC and B1G 12 teams and coerce them to go to a current G6 conference or form a new conference all together where they could be gods and have a much better shot at getting to the CFP. Lock down the rights for that conference through 2075.

On Friday, Judge Charlotte Sweeney of the U.S. District Court of Colorado granted a preliminary injunction requiring the NCAA to declare eligible all high school Class of 2022 athletes who completed four seasons this spring. That means every college athlete who had expiring eligibility could have one more season if they choose to utilize it.

It isn't worth it. The portal makes prediction almost pointless & unlike other G6 leagues, the @Pac12 has multiple marquee matchups with P4 schools & other G6 contenders + they all play each other. There's no need 4 hype. It will all be taken care of on the field. #GoCougs

Weird misstep from the Pac-12 here if you ask me. Of all years, wouldn’t you want to have a media day in your launch year? Generate as much excitement and hype as possible? Finances could absolutely be a factor… but you gotta make it work in Year 1
