Oil and gas account for 36% of India's primary energy supply—yet India imports ~90% of its crude oil and 47% of its natural gas. With the Strait of Hormuz effectively closed and spot LNG prices climbing, the vulnerabilities @HemantMallya and Sabarish Elango flagged in March for @htTweets are no longer hypothetical. India must move beyond reactive crisis management. Expanding strategic storage, diversifying energy pathways, and accelerating electrification are the architecture of energy security. The energy transition is India's most credible long-term hedge against geopolitical volatility. Treating it as such, rather than primarily as an environmental or climate commitment, is where policy must now go.👇 hindustantimes.com/opinion/west-a…

Indian summers are increasingly bringing a double burden: extreme #heat and worsening #airpollution. Alongside rising temperatures, cities also see PM10 levels breach national standards during this season, with dust emerging as the dominant summer pollutant. As #dust levels rise again this summer, we’re revisiting a blog from last year that unpacked why cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata continue to see worsening summer air pollution. The analysis by @mrafiuddin50 and @SnehaIgnatious highlights how dust storms, loose road dust, #construction activity, and ozone formation driven by vehicular emissions combine to create a distinct summer pollution challenge that demands its own action plan. 🔗 Read the blog: ceew.in/blogs/how-can-…

What role can geothermal energy play in India's path to a diversified clean energy future? As India looks to diversify beyond solar and wind, #geothermal offers a firm, reliable, and indigenous source of power. With the National Policy on Geothermal Energy freshly released by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (#MNRE), the conversation is shifting from potential to pathways — on deployment, industrial applications, financing, and pilot projects that can demonstrate real-world viability. Join us for the launch of the Future of Geothermal Energy in India, a joint report by @innerspace2030 and CEEW, featuring panel discussions with policymakers, industry leaders, and #energy researchers on unlocking India's geothermal opportunity, from subsurface resource mapping and drilling innovation to industrial heating, #cooling, and pilot project replication. 📅 14 May 2026 | 09:30 – 14:30 IST 📍 Taj Ambassador, New Delhi 🔗 Register now: luma.com/f5s97yr0 🗣️ Shri Mayank Tewari, Prashant Singh, Vijay Chauhan, Rupesh Savla, Namrata Bist, Devesh Gupta, Jackson Marshall Grimes, Drew Nelson, @KaygeeAtWork

🚨 More than half of India's data centres already face temperatures above 35°C for over 90 days a year. By 2040, nearly 90% could. India's data centres are growing in number and scale. At the same time, climate change is making the regions they sit in significantly hotter. CRAVIS maps how the two trajectories meet by 2040. Planning data centres alongside energy, water, and land-use systems can help ensure India’s digital growth strengthens resilience, rather than creating new points of stress. cravis.ai lets you explore heat, water, and energy risk across India's districts and climate scenarios. Cool roofs, cooler homes, and climate-smart choices—straight from the heart of Odisha. In Bhubaneswar, where 37 heatwaves scorched the city in 2024, homes in low-income settlements turn into ovens during summer. But a simple, affordable solution is helping families, especially women, ‘ghare ghare thanda rakhibaku’ (keep their homes cool). Communities, with the help of Mahila Housing Trust, are using cool roofs to #BeatTheHeat—lowering indoor temperatures, improving comfort, and building resilience from the rooftops up. 🎥 Watch the full episode on our YouTube channel: youtu.be/fGdljwbFHFM #NetZeroCooling #ClimateAction #Heatwave #SustainableIndia #Bhubaneswar

India’s first Contract-for-Difference (CfD) pilot marks an important step towards more flexible and market-driven power procurement. As the gap between peak and average power demand widens, CfDs can help de-risk #RenewableEnergy and storage projects while supporting cleaner peak power supply and more liquid wholesale electricity markets. ✍️ In our #NewBlog, @rashisingh29 , @disha_agarwal12, and @vishaltrip argue how scaling such market instruments could strengthen India’s evolving #PowerMarkets, provided they are backed by stronger pricing benchmarks, wider buyer participation, long-term hedging tools, and broader #electricity market reforms. 🔗 Read at ceew.in/blogs/how-indi…

#Opinion | Biogas could be LPG hedge in India's dairy belt The Rs 993 hike in commercial #lpgcylinder cylinder prices this month shows how quickly global volatility can reach Indian consumers. But India’s #dairy belt already holds an untapped domestic alternative. Decentralised biogas systems can strengthen household energy security, create local economic value, and reduce dependence on imported LPG. In an uncertain #energy landscape, biogas can emerge as a durable Made-in-India cooking fuel pipeline for millions of households across dairy clusters. ✍️ @Abhishek_Kar_AK & Bigsna Gill in today’s @DeccanHerald 👇 deccanherald.com/opinion/biogas…

India may be heading into a season where heat, lightning, water stress and crop risk intensify together. @RockSea Roxy Mathew Koll and I argue that India must shift from reacting to these risks to preparing for them as one connected system. A weaker or delayed monsoon extends heat and humidity, increases exposure for farmers and outdoor workers, raises the risk of thunderstorms and lightning, and, could also lead to water stress, sowing disruptions, and crop losses. In a warming climate, these are cascading interconnected risks. In today's @htTweets, we outline what this preparedness looks like in practice 👇
