Chelsea players were warned not to form their infamous huddle around the ball against Newcastle United – but did so anyway, leading to the farcical encircling of referee Paul Tierney Read our exclusive by @SamWallaceTel below 🖇️ telegraph.co.uk/football/2026/…

Chelsea Q&A below, featuring how Estevao was a late call-up to the bench vs PSG after two dropouts and why #CFC never intended on using 18yo Brazilian:

Liam Rosenior: – Makes the players compete over who can build LEGO better. – Claps without gloves in training just to “feel it more.” – He doesn’t manage. He ages men. Whatever that means. – Claims we have a world-class squad, yet keeps losing the biggest games and embarrassing the club. – Writes tactics on paper at almost full-time to hand to players… while losing 8–2 on aggregate. – Makes the players form a circle in the middle of the pitch to “respect the ball” like it’s a god. – Has no idea how lineup leaks are constantly reaching the French media. – Has no control over the squad. Doesn’t even know what Enzo said exactly after the game. – Comes across as cringe in every interview, constantly talking without saying anything meaningful. I don’t know if I’ve forgotten anything else. This is just what I’ve gathered since he arrived, plus what I’ve seen from Chelsea fans and the biggest pages on X. Potentially one of the worst managers in Chelsea history if this continues. I’d say around 90% of the fanbase is now in favor of sacking him. So why hasn’t he been sacked already? Lock this club up for a few years. This is a full-blown pandemic at Chelsea. 🔒

Chelsea are behind Liam Rosenior and sympathise that he has come into a situation where the squad is said to be ‘knackered’ and has not had appropriate time to implement his ideas. Summer target lists are underway with all eventualities being considered, as Chelsea feel UCL qualification will likely come down to fine margins in May. There is no current suggestion that the model will be changed. Chelsea also feel that contract statues with many current stars wanting more money is further proof that it would not be wise to chase signings that would be looking for a high base salary. The club want players to be together as a team and earn their money. There is not an appetite to create an entitled and unhealthy culture and the cost to risk ratio is high. Directors are working within the financial restrictions and the model put in place by Behdad Egbhali. There may be an odd exception but generally this is what I’m told. The club are open to spending high transfer fee’s but not salaries straight away. 1/3…

🚨 Failure to qualify for the Champions League would result in players missing out on their lucrative bonuses. Some sources believe that could present a significant problem, given Chelsea’s project has been built around a wage structure that puts players on lower basic salaries than many of their contemporaries at rival clubs, but with big performance-related incentives. A lot has gone wrong at #CFC over the past 7 days. Everyone is under scrutiny and the fans are growing mutinous. Liam Rosenior now knows what being head coach at the club is really like. My column here: nytimes.com/athletic/71272…

If Enzo Fernandez is interested in leaving Chelsea, then what’s to say other star signings of the BlueCo era won’t decide they’ve had enough? And where would that leave the project? #cfc telegraph.co.uk/football/2026/…

Look, we get it! It's a popular time to dunk on Chelsea. Kicking us while we're down, etc. But let's not rewrite history; the CWC was rated, Madrid even paid 10 mil for Trent early, and PSG took it seriously. South American clubs were all bang on it. Also, winning the CWC made sure we won it ALL. That's special, whether you like it or not. Besides, we have bigger problems than the placement of a trophy on a banner, ffs.
Matt Law@Matt_Law_DT

This seemed to wind a lot of people up last week. I stand by it. There was a banner in the Matthew Harding stand displayed before kick-off last night that displayed all of Chelsea’s trophies. And slap bang in the middle of it - much bigger than all the others - was the Club World Cup. It was good at the time but nobody outside Chelsea rates it. Forget about it, move on and concentrate on winning a trophy that will really send a statement.

I do think Rosenior needs to go. He’s definitely not the main point in fault but you can see early when a manager/coach looks out of depth and unfortunately this is an obvious case of one. Not a chance the dressing room has respect for him, says a lot when Gusto called out the tactics after the first leg. Sanchez will have support in the dressing room too after being dropped and Enzo speaking about his future after the game. There’s nobody holding that dressing room together.

Liam Rosenior is a dead man walking already. It’s obvious he’s miles out of his depth, and it’s clear the players don’t respect him. After both legs players have publicly questioned his tactics. He was never going to say no but he shouldn’t be anywhere near this job.

@Matt_Law_DT The issue isn't a gold badge, the banner, or the Club World Cup success. The issue is the project. The recruitment. The mentality. The results.

The first change Chelsea should make for next season is to remove the Club World Cup winners’ badge from their shirts. That would be a start to crushing a culture of arrogance #cfc telegraph.co.uk/football/2026/…

I have zero faith in their hiring or recruitment. I’m very anxious about the future and what they might do next. The last few years haven’t given me any confidence, they’ve only confirmed the red flags I had years ago. Not sure why any one has faith they’ll do better next time.

Despite his Chairmanship, it’s been very well-documented that Todd Boehly’s ability to leverage it (aside from the first window), has been very limited thanks to internal politics and Eghbali’s micro-management. Now is the time to do it, or continue to be party to the issue.
