Pre-Toronto travel prep, in order of importance: 1) blessed by a 200-year-old monk at the building merit ceremony, 2) N95 masks, 3) vaccines, 4) everything else. 24 hours of flying ahead of me and honestly, the monk alone probably covers it. The masks are just backup

@ardabrowski i think its not one way or the other — it's just consistent bar raising — what's great is seeing something efficient/affordable get to top tier. now that's the baseline. should be a fun year!

Do you remember the meltdown after DeepSeek? It was really big but faded away pretty quickly. But if Kimi truly delivers, and it seems it does, I think we might permanently switch into assuming OSS will catch up soon. This mindset change will have giant consequences
Guillermo Rauch@rauchg

Kimi K3 is the best performing model on nextjs.org/evals, ahead of Fable, reaching a comparable success rate in less time. This is the first time that an open model is ahead of all proprietary ones for this comprehensive web engineering benchmark. Notes: ▪️ Benchmarks don’t always tell the full story, although this is important signal, adding to mounting evidence that this could be a breakthrough moment for open models ▪️ No model as of yet has reached 100% completion on this set of evals. The top performer peaks at 92% and 96% “with help”

After 5 years as a freelance Shopify developer and 2.5 years inside the mothership, I’ve made the decision to leave Shopify. As I reflect on these years, I keep thinking about my very first Shopify client: a French woman who needed a store built for the haircare products she was making at home. Without knowing it, she introduced me to Shopify and put me on a path that would change the course of my life. In the Shopify ecosystem, I met my partner, made friends for life, moved to the UK, learned a ton, challenged myself, was challenged, and grew more than I could have imagined. Thank you to everyone who made this 7.5-year journey unforgettable. It’s been a wonderful chapter. People thought I was passionate about the Shopify product itself. It’s true, I was. But what I’ve recently discovered is that what I love even more is what sits underneath it: building things that are useful to people, and that have a positive impact on their business and their life. The two often go hand in hand. This is what will guide my next chapter, which I’ll share more about soon. In the meantime, I’ll take some time to reset, recharge, soak up the sun, and hold my loved ones tight.

I bought iziGift because I lost a podcast giveaway. @ShaanVP, was giving away a Shopify app. @sampar recommend he give it to me. I DMed Shaan for it. I didn't win the app but it did inspire me. I was on the @ecommcowboy podcast a few weeks ago and told the story of how I purchased @izi_gift and how that led to me starting NYC Commerce Club. Check it out 😁

I've gotten so used to handing annoying things off to AI that apparently it's becoming muscle memory. Today I needed to break down a cardboard box. I looked at it, decided it was annoying enough that something else should do it, and physically moved my hand like I was handing the task off. There was, of course, nothing there to hand it to. My brain has apparently adjusted to having agents faster than the physical world has. Has anybody else caught themselves trying to hand off a task that was actually right in front of them?

What if Shopify reset all app reviews to zero and just leveled the playing field?

This year for #DotDev the plan is to get out of my comfort zone and walk up to people in the Shopify ecosystem who have done work that helped or inspired me and just say thank you! Will it be awkward? Maybe, but we need more of this. Got a long list and not a lot of time 😅.
