📢 Big win for small business in Vancouver! CFIB, as part of the BC Coalition for Affordable Dependable Energy, pushed back on costly energy rules raising rents and operating costs. More choice, less red tape. Thanks to members who spoke up and signed our petition! #bcpoli

Confidence nosedives among Canada small and mid-sized firms due to elevated energy costs. Firms surveyed in May indicate they anticipate raising prices by over 3% -- or a second straight month they expect price hikes of 3%-plus. On WSJ wires:

@CFIB Business Barometer, which is based on 12-month forward expectations for business performance, fell to 46.3 this month—a decrease of about 12 points from April. The short-term optimism index, based on a 3-month outlook, also declined, dropping about 7 points to 47.9, signaling a significant deterioration.”   Despite the Liberal government’s promises, business confidence in Canada is declining.   Sign up today for my small business survey if you are concerned about the state of small businesses: conservative.ca/small-business/   #cdnpoli

Cost increases throughout the grocery supply chain are putting pressure on food prices -- and stoking concern among small independent retailers, who worry they're disproportionately bearing the burden of added fees from suppliers. theglobeandmail.com/business/artic… #retail

Red tape is costing small businesses time and growth. On average, owners spend over 250 hours a year on paperwork and compliance, with 87% saying excessive regulation is holding them back. For smaller firms, the burden is even heavier. CFIB continues to push for more efficient, streamlined rules that support productivity and economic growth. 📊 Read the full report: hubs.li/Q04gGYKK0 #RedTape #CdnBiz #PublicPolicy

1/2 For those that haven't heard yet, I'm retiring in two weeks after 36 years in journalism. It has been a lot of fun, but at 60, I am looking forward to spending more time with family, in a canoe, or out on a hike. Here's a bit of a thank-you .... #mbpoli

I have some sad news to share today. CFIB's founder, John Bulloch, passed away recently in Toronto at age 92. John was recognized as a Member of the Order of Canada for his work in creating our country's small business advocacy organization. John called me a few weeks ago, letting me know he had received some tough news from his doctors. When I visited him in the hospital the next day, his focus was not on himself (even after spending the night in the hallway), but on what was happening at CFIB. CFIB is planning a celebration of John’s life and legacy in the weeks ahead, in our Toronto office. This feels right as, a few years back, I named our office the John and Mary Bulloch Building on their 60th wedding anniversary. On a personal note, I will remember John as a great Canadian, a personal supporter and an incredibly funny and fascinating man. He lived the definition of a life well lived – living independently with the love of his life until age 92 and leaving a legacy of a strong organization focused on building a better country. John, I will miss you. CFIB's statement on founder John Bulloch’s passing: cfib-fcei.ca/en/site/rememb…

CFIB welcomes the MB WCB’s $90M surplus rebate to employers, but the board remains above its 130% target. We continue to call for a legislated, predictable rebate framework as MB faces an entrepreneurial drought, with more businesses closing than opening. cfib-fcei.ca/en/media/90-mi…
