@JrdnMcFarland @SahilBloom Guys, this is all captured by the leading behavioral expert George Costanza, who discovered the impact of doing the opposite 😆

@SahilBloom Aha, it appears I missed a week or two. So if I don’t want to get fat and out of shape, I put on the lens of someone who’s fat and out of shape, but then return back to someone who wants to hit PRs monthly and yada yada. I like it.

Big announcement! After 16 years in SEO, today I'm launching something I've been building toward for a long time. 🥳 Introducing Algorythmic: my new SEO and AI search consultancy. For the past decade+, I've led award-winning SEO teams at agencies. I've spoken at ~100 conferences. I've spent thousands of hours analyzing Google algorithm updates, studying E-E-A-T, and more recently, figuring out how brands can show up well in AI-driven search. Now I'm channeling all of that into something of my own. Through Algorythmic, I'll be selectively working with brands 1:1 on SEO consulting, AI search optimization (AEO/GEO), E-E-A-T strategy, content quality audits, Google Discover, algorithm update recovery, hourly training, and more. I'm also excited to announce that as part of this launch, I will be continuing my role as VP of SEO & AI Search at Amsive, where I still oversee an incredible team of 30+ SEO experts (who won "Best Enterprise SEO Team" in 2025, according to the Search Engine Land awards!). Algorythmic will allow me to take on solo projects that are a strong personal fit for my skills and experience. Check out the comments for the link to my new site. BTW, if you're curious about the name Algorythmic: it's a mashup of "algorithm" and "rhythm." If you know me, you know those are the two things that have defined my entire life (especially 'rhythm'). The full origin story (involving a fictional SEO-themed deli my Amsive team created in 2019) is on the blog - link also in comments. I'm being very intentional about the work I take on through Algorythmic. If you think we'd be a good fit, I'd love to hear from you. Check out the new site and get in touch!

@tomfgoodwin We coach our kids on the Internet mostly being companies and people after your money or attention. I think the world will skew more offline and the Internet will be a necessary evil for buying, communication, etc but not for entertainment or leisure. It's too bad.

95% of my emails are now spam’s and scams. My social feeds are ads for “how to make a million a month” What does it mean to grow up in this era. Imagine explaining to your kids that basically almost everything online is a lie or scam . Even disregarding fake news

@retirein1500 @RootofGoodBlog I think this same mentality keeps some from starting the wealth building journey. They see others with so much and feel it's a zero sum game so there couldn't possibly be anything for me. In reality, we can all have lots of grass if we play the game right!

1. Spend less 2. Earn more 3. Invest every penny you can 4. Work the program for a decade (or two!) 5. You have seven figures, do whatever you want (retire early, change careers etc) 5 simple steps, why more folks don't do this, idk

@retirein1500 @RootofGoodBlog I think because adhering to such a process requires great sense of self and comfort with who you are in the world. And a lack of regard for status signaling. On the flip side, there's more marketing than ever telling us we need things to show status and feel safe.

Why don't more do this? My guess is that the concept is so foreign, unrelatable, and rare, most dismiss it without even considering it. Most humans are followers too and not many know someone who quit work in their 40s. They just do what everyone else is doing. It drives me a little crazy because I see how good it is here on the other side.

@lilyraynyc 100% this. This AI wave feels like educating folks all over again a la keywords; to not over-optimize for what we've already seen and instead "skate to where the puck is going" if you will. It's AI's keyword moment, except 1,000x what we went through in traditional SEO.

While I am super excited that we are starting to get "query fan-out" data across different tools & LLM trackers, I think it's important to remember that this data should *also* be used directionally, because like AI answers, the query fan-outs are personalized and unique to each user. For example, I just asked ChatGPT (logged in, paid account) "what are the best conferences to attend in 2026?" And it conducted these fan-out queries: 1. top conferences globally for business digital marketing SEO 2026 conferences 2026 lists events 2026 2. What are major technology, marketing, digital marketing, SEO conferences happening annually and likely in 2026 event examples SMX MozCon Content Marketing conference dates 2026 It also answered with this "Cool question — since you work in SEO / digital marketing (and also have a creative side as a DJ), I picked a mix of conferences in 2026 that are strong for marketing, SEO, content, and digital strategy. Here are some of the best ones to watch 👇" I didn't ask it about SEO or DJing when I asked about the best conferences. My point is - a generic keyword/prompt is met with a highly personalized response. LLM trackers won't pick up on this nuance. This is in addition to the randomness already built into LLMs by design. So before you overhaul your entire strategy to try to target each individual fan-out query you see in LLM tracking tools as if they are FAQs (yikes) - I think a better approach is to look at the common entities, topics, brands, and considerations included in the fan-out queries at scale. Cross-reference these data points with your content to ensure that you're already providing answers to those questions in your content when it makes sense. More importantly, focus on providing content targeted to your specific audience(s) and their unique pain points. Because we can't anticipate every possible fan-out query for every type of user - it's like playing whack a mole. Would love to hear how others are approaching this!

Obsessed with these shots of people on their balconies. They all give me a really good feeling. Something oddly close about them, even in the leering.

@tomfgoodwin I'm giving it five years for people to snap out of it and wonder why humans feel so empty and uninspired — after years of talking to AI bots. Then the pendulum will swing back and 'real humans' will be sold to use like it's a brand new idea.

@cfohlin So I would say the radar is wrong for some reason. There was plenty of activity on Doppler radar today. Secondly, I have no idea how or why an app would have no rain forecast today. That’s almost a given in summer here, but a good reminder that apps have big time faults.

@mattlanza is Houston's climate too challenging to forecast sometimes? It's pouring rain near Memorial Park and there's not a blip on my weather app's radar and no rain suggested.

Can we agree that the iPhone 4 was the best design and form factor? *15 years* later, we've come full circle with iPhone 16e and Pixel 9a. We've mastered the smartphone; no further designs are needed. Time to move on to greater opportunities.
