God forbid I try to bring nuance to the topic of John Byrne 🙄 Y’all I’m not angry that people hate him, while I think Twitter is an echo chamber of bad information I also think the reasons people here to hate him are valid and understandable and come from a good place.

@allowableman2 Cory still drew the book when possible which he described as “taking the kid out to the park every now and then”. What we got was truly the best case scenario.

@allowableman2 To be clear tho Cory Walker was in full support of this decision and even outside of later fill-in issues he did, he remained involved with the comic. His office was still right next to Robert’s so Robert and Ryan were alway consulting him on the story an character designs.

@allowableman2 Basically Robert Kirkman similar to Todd McFarlane is a strong believer in comics having a strong monthly schedule without missing deadlines. Cory Walker was struggling with the deadlines so Robert hired Ryan Ottley who he knew through Internet forums and Ryan kept up the grind.

I disagree with the idea that Child Within should have been *the* final Peter Parker Spider-Man story But I do think that book should have been used as a signaling of the end on the horizon, and that our time with Peter as the hero was coming to an end

There's a very particular niche of characters, like Gwen Stacy and Dick Grayson as specifically Robin where any attempt to modernise them gets labeled as stealing from successors who occupy similar roles but we're written as more complex & well rounded characters.
