A desire for estimates often stems from fear that you won't deliver. Once you start delivering useful code very frequently, the ask for estimates tends to fade. No Estimates is not a thing you do, it's something that happens when you work in ways where estimates aren't required.

There's no need for dev and ops to have empathy for each other and work together, when there is no "dev" and "ops" -- only engineers who write and run their own code. 🙃 Devops is about automation and managing infrastructure. Platform is about not having infra to run.

You'd think the highest-paid sw engineers spend most of their time writing code. If you observed them, you'll find they read a lot of code and documents, talk with lots of people, and think a lot. Then they do what helps the business the most. And it's often not writing code.

So I prefer horizontal since that makes it look like the screws are sleeping.
