I want new Blue Congress and/or the new president to go all in on revoking ASPA -- the Hague invasion act. Get the ICC in here and do what's right for the world.

The new Trump administration counterterrorism strategy document is not getting nearly enough attention. The document explicitly lists “left-wing extremists,” people with “radically pro-transgender” ideologies, and “anti-fascists” alongside ISIS and cartels as top national security threats. It discusses using counterterrorism powers to “map” domestic groups, identify memberships, and target ties to organizations like Antifa. It also attacks Europe, calling for halting what it calls its “willful decline.”

@Lucius0 @MsEntropy I lost my job tracking transnational white supremacists when DOGE hit and was working on a paper on Christian nationalism and gender before I got a new job in the last few months. I just learned about 7 mountains and it made my heart fall out of my ass. So fucking scary.

@MsEntropy @mattyglesias That and seven mountains seem to be the entire basis of the federal government right now. It's really easy to understand whats happening when you've already obsessed about how scary this could have been and now is.

I’m uninterested in having a Platner debate here so don’t @ me; what I do want to highlight, however, is how stunningly ignorant @mattyglesias is (and many more) about the methods and ideologies of the white supremacist movement. For loads of Neo-Nazis, it’s not “left vs. right.” It’s “race is my religion” — many of them, quite literally, including, after renouncing Christian Identity Movement, Tom Metzger. Metzger, in fact, was one of the modern leaders who pushed Third Position white supremacist ideology, and we saw just one of the impacts on those influenced at Charlottesville. Matt Heimbach, one of Unite The Right’s organizers, founded the Traditionalist Workers Party on such a platform: left economic populism but emphasizing the “white working class.” Metzger was also one of the champions of racist fascist infiltration campaigns (the subject of the book I’m writing), not just in law enforcement, immigration, and the military, but also in civil society - targeting school boards and local political parties (both Republican and Democratic). He, like the vast majority of the racist activist movement, hated both political parties (particularly due to the issue of Israel). Metzger was a pragmatist whose motto was “use what works.” And he d I’m not arguing anything here one way or another about Graham Platner, but we do need to recognize that Matt Yglesias’ blindspot and assumptions obfuscate the realities of a 50+ year white supremacist strategy — particularly the mistaken association of anti capitalist and anti Israel positions as exclusive to an (assumed) anti-racist left. Republicans have, historically, merely been more open to Neo-Nazi and fascist organizing, infiltrating, and influence — and the modern movement has been hard at work (originally undercover) mainstreaming there since 1993, focusing on shared grievances like immigration (for example). Hence the GOP-aligned over representation. As an anti-racist and anti-fascist hostile to both Zionism and capitalism who professionally specializes her research on the modern white supremacist movement, I warn you all: Don’t forget the Red-Brown alliance exists. With Trump’s actions on Israel, the Iran War, Epstein, and financial corruption — recruitment efforts are well underway as these issues spike common grievances often used as persuasive lures. It’s an especially bad time to remain ignorant.

I had a really refreshing experience w a doctor esp after seeing all the talk around Drs not liking informed patients. Was rly supportive of online rare condition communities bc we r able to recognize patterns much faster than the medical industry. Rly very sweet

@jailedamanda @big_cheddars Ah I never thought about that aspect! I knew about the NO on the wrong leg from a friend who had meniscus surgery but didn't even think about how "my right or yours" could be confused esp in a high stress environment

Speaking of woodcocks, Wikipedia claims that one of its regional nicknames is "trainanator" but Googling doesn't give me any source. Just circular citations of a screenshot of the wiki page.
Dan Baldassarre@evornithology

American Woodcocks have complete 360° visual coverage above the horizontal plane. Even at the horizontal, they only have a 1° blind spot behind their head (figure: Martin et al. 1994). The Mallard actually has them beat, with complete panoramic vision in the horizontal plane!

@pulpy_fiction This randomly popped into my feed but I went to Malta for a work trip and it was SO interesting. Their ancient history is crazy and their language is SO cool. Not quite Arabic, not quite Italian.

Probably one of the only mainstream voices out there that can keep up with Andrew. Holds their own effortlessly singing the main line while Andrew harmonizes behind and neither one sounds strained or out competes the other.
