@you_bf_smith @KateFantom On 3.5p per Kwh from Octopus at the moment so down to 1p a mile! But it will go up thanks to the Orange one later in the year!

Right now I’m charging my EV from the grid. It averages 4 miles/kWh. With current emissions it will emit 20g/CO2 per mile or 12g/CO2 per km. It costs 5p/kWh. For a full charge of 220 miles it will cost approximately £2.85. The car I’m charging is a 2021 MG5 which has covered 170,000. It’s well worth getting one if you can.

Understatement of the day on @BBCr4today this morning in the context of whether the latest on the Falklands is about resources (I doubt it): “…just in the last couple of years, it feels like oil is the driver for so many things…” “Last couple of years”? Try the last century!

Question...with the tougher rules on security vetting that are bound to happen following the Mandelson fiasco, would Farage get clearance? We know that Starmer due to his previous role as head of CPS has it......

@drdavidbull This is a local election, I want my £2m for my high street that the LCC Reform administration have lost back. I want the land promised for the FA scheme for youth football back! Not national twaddle...

🚨With just 24 days until the elections, let’s be clear: under a Reform UK administration, the NHS will remain free at the point of need. Ignore the lies.

I wasn’t able to take part in #BBCQT from Clacton tonight, as we were told MPs are not allowed to appear on the show in their own constituencies. I’m sure I’ll be back on before too long!

@GhostmanMus @AutoPap They already are with the 3p per mle tax from 2028, and a new road fund licence for EVs of £195 per year. It was bound to happen....and actually if the funding goes to road costs then fairer with the more you drive the more you pay principle.

@AutoPap I think you’re right, but at what point do governments change how they tax drivers? They cant afford to lose the huge taxes cars currently generate

If it’s just a matter of transport, I think owning an EV now makes more sense than ever. Especially when it costs me approx £1.20 to charge for my week’s driving.

@ArvaTiberiu @AutoPap Nope 7p per kWh today and from April 3.5p for me so £1.20 is 17 kWh or about 60 miles and double that from April ..... after Jun who knows given what's going on!

@AutoPap Where do you charge for that amount? Imo this is misleading. You can only achieve that using solar panels.

It's absurd Keir Starmer is surrendering the Chagos Islands and Diego Garcia military base when our allies need it most. I would have allowed the US to use the base from the start. The surrender of the Chagos Islands at the cost of £35bn is NOT in our national interest.

Reform will scrap postal voting and ensure only British people have a say over who governs Britain. We will fight to fix our democratic system, just as we fought to secure 4.6m people the vote.

The reason for Sarwar’s antipathy is the party’s tanking poll rating across the United Kingdom. For MPs in Westminster, this is less of an issue – they are not due for re-election until 2029. But in Scotland, the Holyrood elections are barely 12 weeks away, and Scottish Labour is on course to finish third. ✍️ Steerpike spectator.com/article/sarwar…

It’s outrageous that illegal migrants are given priority for housing over our own veterans. Reform UK will put our own people first.

I’m pleased President Trump has now acknowledged the role of the British armed forces and those brave men and women who gave their lives fighting alongside the US and our allies. It should never have been questioned in the first place.

President Trump is right to recognise America’s appreciation for the incredible bravery of our armed forces. British soldiers fought and died on the front line in Afghanistan and other conflicts. They stood shoulder to shoulder with the US and our NATO allies in defence of our shared security.  Trump’s comments earlier this week were disgraceful. We called upon him to show respect and honour our soldiers’ sacrifice and it is right that he has now done so. America is our closest ally and we must always work together to face the shared threats and challenges in an increasingly uncertain world. telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/01/2…
