This effect — regular commuters switching to transit, so delivery drivers, small business owners, and tradespeople who *need* to drive can make the journey faster & be more efficient overall — is what the most extreme pro-pricing people said would happen. x.com/MattZeitlin/st…

But to me, a takeaway is that residents are failed when we downzone our neighborhoods without altering their design in other ways to enable safety and enjoyment. Preferably, though, we don't downzone and still make out streets safer and more walkable 😆(cont'd)

I think an entire thesis can be written on the effects of downzoning a street's buildings but failing to 'downzone' the street itself (maybe one has been?) But North 5th St in Philly is a great example... (cont'd)

Today, I sent a letter to the Governor urging him to use all available tools—including flexing federal infrastructure funds—to prevent devastating SEPTA service cuts and fare hikes. Nearly a million Pennsylvanians rely on public transit every day. We can’t afford to let them down.

Mass transit is a lifeline for Pennsylvanians, but Senate Republicans still refused a deal to fund SEPTA. Now, the Governor may be able to "flex" federal funds to help plug the gap in SEPTA’s budget. I believe we should use any power we have to avoid fare hikes and service cuts.

now compare this to how we’re talking about SEPTA today: “managed decline”
Randy Clarke@wmataGM

Reflecting on these stats. @wmata is #1 in 🚇 ridership growth in 2024 & top in 🚌 on recovery. $500+m in savings found in 2 years while having highest customer satisfaction in history & less safety issues. We can’t get complacent, w/o investment things will go backwards. #wmata
