I hope you know, no matter what the election results are, Donald Trump fully intends to take over the White House. Only someone having pulled a “Rip Van Winkle” the last 7-8 years would think otherwise. Trust that they have a plan. Rest assured it’s a more thorough plan than they had last time. Vladimir Putin and the GOP are in no way, shape, or form….going to say, “Oh, Biden got more votes? Jeesh. Okay. I guess he won a second term.” That…is never going to happen. It is not. F. Scott Fitzgerald once wrote, “The test of first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function. One should, for example, be able to see that things are hopeless, yet be determined to make them otherwise.” For us, it means this: 1. We do everything we can to have a record turnout, and beat Trump by an overwhelming number of votes and save democracy. 2. Realize that winning the election won’t guarantee democracy for another four years, and won’t cause Trump and MAGA to “pick up their ball” and go home. Only by holding these two thoughts simultaneously, and acting like the kind of adults we’d want our kids to have as role models…and doing it without whining or complaining, will democracy have any chance in hell of surviving Trump and his cult following. This is what real resilience looks like. It’s not “Everything is sunny and we couldn’t be better!!,” with smiles, and skipping barefoot through fields of gold. Real resilience has blood, sweat…and lots of tears, and a mind that says, “Fuck that. I don’t have time for this shit right now. We have freedom on the line…so get off your ass….and help me!!” Real resilience isn’t fun. It doesn’t have a motivating soundtrack being pumped through Bose speakers that carries you every step of the way. Real resilience is about as much fun as eating a bowl of skunk assholes. That’s why it’s called “Real Resilience.” It’s what happens when you’d rather quit, give up…or even die. Real Resilience starts with a decision. You decide you WILL be resilient…even before you know how. Then…you figure it out, as best you can. Prayers aren’t going to save democracy. Love isn’t going to save democracy. SUSTAINED ACTION is the only thing that will even stand a chance of saving democracy. Even then, it’s not guaranteed. Again, that’s why it’s called “REAL Resilience”: Because it calls for the kind of sacrifices you may have never even considered before. The kind you may not even want to consider. It’s going to take all of us. I know we can do this. I also know….and so do you, that we must….do this.
