@mnolangray Why would we support someone who makes it easier to build and then bankrupts us once built? Its much better to be denied upfront than tricked and BK'd

@wong_guey @moseskagan @realsaadasad The position the anti-restoration people have taken is completely insane. Bizarro environmentalism you could only find here. Such a huge missed opportunity for the community here - the Malibu lagoon restoration was a huge success.

There are a lot of other issues that one can dislike Traci for too: -Voted against lawyers for people facing deportation twice in 2023 -The most vocal opponent against Measure HLA, requiring the city to implement street safety -Opposed even studying underused freeway-to-housing, parks, and bus conversion -Prioritization of LAPD funding to the point of voting down a budget that expanded LAFD But her blockage of Venice Dell, opposition to SB 79, and entering politics to stop a Ramada Inn from housing homeless folks are enough reasons for me.
Moses Kagan@moseskagan

Protect Traci at all costs (And, yes, YIMBYs, I'm aware you dislike her land use positions. It turns out there are a lot of other issues that matter to our city, too.)

@charliem013 @moseskagan @realsaadasad IMHO the best solution would be to convert Cabora to bike lanes and widen the Douglas Laux Trail and extended it into the trail behind the Inn at Playa Del Ray. That way you are completely separated from traffic during large elevation changes.

@wong_guey @moseskagan @realsaadasad There used to be bike lanes on Pershing that were removed due to backlash/traffic. Not sure how bad it really was bc I wasn’t in Playa then. LAWA owns a ton of land you could put paths trails on that would take you directly to the beach

@wong_guey @moseskagan @realsaadasad Yeah it happened in front of Hacienda. You have to take a lane at that part and hope a car doesn’t hit you from the back. The issue with most LA bike lanes is they eventually bottleneck into sketchy and dangerous sections like Pershing if you want to actually get anywhere

@wong_guey @moseskagan @realsaadasad I ride through that section several times a week and it’s clearly a road design issue. It’s a section between a protected bike path on Westchester Parkway and the Marvin Braude trail/beach you have to pass through. Cars are traveling fast and there is no shoulder. Super dangerous

@moseskagan @realsaadasad Well I don’t think it’s getting repealed then. I don’t think having safe sidewalks or bike lanes is crazy - it’s the city’s own approved plan. The fiscal situation is bad, best thing would be to have leadership that supports new housing and businesses and pump up those revenues.

I am not reading it anywhere. I am looking at our fiscal situation and noticing that HLA puts us between a rock and a hard place: We need to fix the roads, we don't have money for crazy upgrades required by HLA, and therefore we're not fixing the roads. Unsustainable situations tend not to be sustained.

@moseskagan @realsaadasad Where are you hearing it’s going to get repealed? I agree policy making by ballot is bad but LA literally will not implement its own plans to fix sidewalks and add bike lanes.

@charliem013 @realsaadasad HLA is going to end up being repealed, bc it's unworkable in our current fiscal situation Perfect example of terrible policy-making by ballot initiative (ULA another)

@moseskagan @realsaadasad I appreciate her work on public safety and encampments but she is maybe the worst CM on housing and transportation. Her anti-HLA stance was frankly bizarre and embarrassing when our district approved it 2 to 1. Now reversing herself after a pregnant biker was run over in PDR.

Zoning update process: 1. Treat zoning codes as a magic wands for dictating a perfect, idealized urban form hashed out over yearslong process with local groups, residents, activists 2. Absolutely nothing gets built 3. Repeat step 1 for next cycle
Joe Cohen@CohenSite

To my knowledge, there is only one single project that has applied under LA's new zoning code in DTLA, which went into effect a year ago. The fact that this project had to ask for six waivers from standards in the code is a not-so-great sign

It has been a rough few of years for Los Angeles, but Nithya Raman has been consistently clear-eyed and solutions-oriented about the city's problems. Combine that with an understanding of government needed to effectuate change and I think she is an extremely strong candidate.

@yinyang_yo_ Don’t you know that reforming a program so that it doesn’t destroy our housing market while only cutting (unspent) revenues by 8% is actually the same thing as defunding it? Good thing someone from SF can lecture everyone about this.

If you oppose HJTA's ballot measure, then the ULA reform proposal will stave it off The failure of getting ULA reform through in a timely manner has only emboldened HJTA measure supporters and you will absolutely end up with nothing if that passes
DEI speedwagon🌹🇵🇸 〽️@uhshanti

there is a state level bill in the works that will not just cut LA’s transfer taxes but potentially 22 other CA cities’. you can call me conservative all you want, but if you don’t have a plan to refund schools and housing etc that use these $, I think that speaks for itself 🤷🏽‍♀️

LA city council just blocked a reform by @nithyavraman that would fix a dumb, economically illiterate policy in LA that taxes multifamily apartments like mansions and has according to all evidence made LA’s housing crisis WORSE. Shameful, pathetic. Look at what is coming for us:

@uhshanti The proposed reform would cut revenues by… 8%. The money that’s already been raised by ULA isn’t even being spent as is! Exactly nothing gets “defunded.” Just complete misinformation

1. they didn’t block it 2. does this lot have an alternate plan to fund social housing pilots or critical tenant & homelessness services or do they just want to defund those because Mr. Market cures all 3. in case you were wondering the answer to (2) is “no plan, don’t care”
