"If the #LeaveOurKidsalone anti-CSE lobby gets its way and sexuality education is removed from the school curriculum, they’re right — kids will be left alone, and in the dark, about their sexual & reproductive health & rights. They deserve better." dailymaverick.co.za/article/2019-1…

1/ For the election nerds: Happy to announce that I'll be working with @News24 again to do election projections for all 9 provinces, the national and regional ballot. It's going to be deliciously complex! Tune in from around 11 PM on election night.

@FlySafair SCRATCH THAT - @FlySafair have not refunded my mom yet and no one from the airline has apologised to her, or explained why this ableist policy exists. Be better to disabled passengers, Fly Safair!

@FlySafair @FlySafair have now given my mom a cash refund, but their policy MAKES NO SENSE. The experience has been othering & upsetting, and has also led to additional costs for my mom who had to try find another flight at late notice.

My mother, who is disabled, is being prevented from flying with her motorised wheelchair on @FlySafair, even though she has flown domestically with the wheelchair many times before on other airlines. She has no mobility without it. Be better to disabled passengers, FlySafair!

@FlySafair @chaskaldaughter The email received when asked if there is anyway to take the mobility aid. "I have escalated the query to a supervisor, and unfortunately, the feedback is still the same that the aid is denied. "As such, a refund will be granted. Cash refunds take 7 to 21 working days.

I'm not flying with @FlySafair again until this policy is changed. It degrades people with disabilities and is unrealistic to the specific needs that persons with disabilities may have.

@FlySafair needs to change its policy on mobility aids for passengers with disabilities. They have a 32kg limit for motorised wheelchairs, but regular passengers can pay for 40kg of regular baggage. A dude with a surfboard can travel but my mom in a wheelchair can't. [THREAD]

My mom has flown on other domestic airlines with her same scooter w/o any issues. It folds up & the battery can be removed. When the battery is removed, it is possible for 1 able bodied person to lift it. I doubt this is about it being too heavy for baggage handlers @FlySafair

Mobility aids like motorised wheelchairs/scooters are made to be light/portable while also ensuring that the disabled person is safe. They have to be heavy enough to accommodate the weight of the person & ensure they are stable enough so they do not fall over. Most weigh +-40kg.
