While people debate whether Miami is a “real” tech hub, companies on the National Security 100 list are building here. @ExowattEnergy made that list, solving one of the hardest problems in the world: energy for the AI era. And they chose to build it right here in Florida. Not Silicon Valley. Not Austin. Florida. That’s not a coincidence. That’s a signal. Shout out to @jackabraham and @chest for betting big on Florida with @HaPi31415 as a result of @FrancisSuarez’s movement. One of the world’s best venture studios building companies here. The talent is here. The aerospace-defense corridor is here. The capital is here. The will is here. Florida is where the future gets built. Full stop. Tag a company and founder you know who’s building the future here in Florida. 👇

Palantir just chose Miami. Cue the predictable take: “Florida doesn’t have the engineering talent.” Cool. Let’s run the numbers. Florida produces 89% as many engineers per capita as California. Eighty. Nine. Percent. That’s with: • Zero Stanford • Zero Caltech • No 10-campus UC empire What Florida does have: • 7 R1 research universities • $3.3B in annual research spend • The largest aerospace engineering program in the country • SpaceX. Blue Origin. Lockheed. L3Harris. Northrop. All building here. Now the part nobody on Tech X wants to discuss: Florida tuition: ~$6,500/year California tuition: $14,000+ Florida income tax: 0% California income tax: up to 13.3% So let’s compare: Cost to produce an engineer → Florida wins. Cost to retain an engineer → Florida wins. Engineer purchasing power → Florida wins. That’s arithmetic. The ROI per engineering degree in Florida might be the highest in America. The people mocking Florida are arguing with a 2015 version of the state. The 2026 version is building rockets, defense systems, AI companies and so much more. You can keep the narrative. We’ll keep the compounding.

@wabi build me an app that only notifies me and a short list of designated friends (ideally I can make separate friend groups too) when we happen to be traveling in the same city, but other than that doesn’t share our location with each other

Fun fact, I used to blog back in the day Here’s my 2009 post on CA as one of the highest taxed states with the lowest ranked quality of services: swooshing.wordpress.com/2009/07/21/why… TLDR, California has been the most wasteful and most corrupt of all the 50 states for a lonnnnggg time.

Has your lived experience in California gotten 3x better in the past 20 years? Because your taxes and borrowing have gone up to triple spending in that same time. California Population: 2004: 35.6M 2024: 39.4M California Spending: 2004: $155B ($4,350/person) 2025: $510B ($12,940/person)

@KTmBoyle 💯 I love this. One of my fav things about living here. 🌞 Enabled me to make closer friends and our family to build deeper relationships in 5 years than in the previous decade+ in SF.

A pleasant surprise upon leaving California five years ago was learning just how few people care about your work. If you’ve only ever worked in industry towns, you’re used to work consuming all aspects of your life. Your friends. Your kids’ play dates. Every conversation dominated by industry news or the latest thing. But outside of a few hubs, “I work in technology” or media or entertainment is enough and no one asks too many questions. Especially in Florida, where it’s rude and prying to ask too much about the past. Some people love this newfound freedom. It’s true anonymity and peace. Others have no idea how to handle it and move back within the year.

Share this view of Miami boom feeling Miami has the alt health metrics for a city: Family oriented -% of population children -How integrated children are into day to day life Civic art & beauty -Public art (whether art is good or not) Miami has ongoing investment in public beauty, art everywhere, etc Influx of people -People moving from multiple other states/countries to be there Government that wants a better life for its citizens -Govt that appears focused on making its city & people happier and more successful in an ever better environment Industry cluster for something central and/or compounding -May be the weakest on this. Strong on tourism, real estate, LATAM/international trade. Some finance and tech moving there, but still not a major cluster for something central or compounding fast yet

Miamiposting might be a phenomenon whose time has passed, but having just spent a few days visiting, it really does feel like a boomtown in a way that no other American city that I've spent time in over the past few years does. In some ways, it reminds me of Chinese cities.
